i found these yesterday evening after work its the first peice of gorgets ive ever found .I was stoked to find them even being broken.I also found an oblong peice which appears to be polished somewhat not sure what it is maybe just a rock but i believe it was used in some way.I found all of these in about 2 hours in a field which hasnt been worked in about 2 years but it has had a whole bunch of rain on it in that time lots of grass and weeds but also some patches of bare ground

the one with the tally marks is broken in half there is half a hole showing on it the tally marks are on the opposite side as far as material on the one with the complete hole i would love to know what it is but i have no idea it is white looking and about a quarter inch thick

Where is the second hole at then to make it a gorget and not a pendent? Have you been able to count how many tally marks it has? Those make it a lil more special to me....

i only see one hole so i guess it was a pendant then?I dont know i called them gorgets becauce it was the first thing that csme to mind they are not whole so its hard to say but i am happy to have found them anyways

Nice finds mud!! Question, on the slate piece are you sure that's a second drill hole? The tally marks would be on the outer edge so why would there be a hole on the edge. Could've been a repair job, hard to say. What is the material of the other drilled piece, how thick is it?

I think the thicker piece with the hole in the middle is soapstone or stealatite which would make for a good cooking piece for heating up water.

it may be soapstone i have found large pieces of a white material there which i had thought might be soapstone

I dont think it would have been used for heating water though i believe it was some sort of ornament

Lets see your large piece. I have a large piece to looks like a frying pan design but has divots on it but none drilled all the way through

Anyday you bring home tallied slate is a good day in my book brother!!!!!

Excellent finds
