Back to the lot today. We've just about covered all the area that hasn't been mixed up by the dozer, so I decided to battle the trash in the middle and see if I could manage a keeper or two.
100_1010-1.jpg

First keeper looked like maybe a silver quarter, but a little earlier I had dug one of those 'knock out' things from an electrical box, so I wasn't sure. Dug lots of modern coins that were all yuck and a neat silver button. Walked along a line of bricks still buried in the ground and came across a quarter sized coin. Black and and like sandpaper, but I could see an eagle on the back. Next dig was right next to that one and looked to be a nickel with the same consistency as the previous. I don't know what era it is. :-\ I am going to assume that once, long ago, there was a fire and these must have suffered a sad fate from it. Last keeper of the day was this really neat Ford key! It has the number 57 on the back side. In the mix was a poor looking 1905 Injun and four wheaties. As usual, at the end of the day, we meet back up at the truck and see what we've found. Put my glasses on and see that I have found TWO Barber quarters! :o BUT...one is almost as smooth as a baby's butt and the year is 1892 and the other is all crusty but can read the date of 1906. :'( And I have a nickel that I don't know what it is and an Injun that's not much better. I am happy with my finds, but wish those quarters had been a bit better. :)

I think they're right, that crusty coin looks bigger than a nickel..

I don't know what to say about finding TWO Barber quarters in one hunt.

YOU ROCKIN' OUT! I hope you're having fun with this great haul & have more fun as they clean up.

That's a great day! I've seen some pretty good cleanup jobs posted here; you might be able to bring some shine back to that quarter.

Beautiful Barbers Nana !!! :icon_thumleft: :occasion14: :icon_thumright:

I'm curious about the Ford key ...looks like it may be from a early model...I hope you can research it and find out :dontknow:
Back for Christmas I bought my huntin bud and his wife a utra-sonic cleaner at Bed-Bath & Beyond and it cleans silver very good !

I know there are many methods to cleaning coins but I think the ultrs-sonic might be the way to go...Cost about $50

Just a suggestion...& ....worth a try !

Again AWESOME finds !!!

Wow! I bet we all three walked over that spot a hundred times! Looks like I missed another great hunt. We need to total up our silver finds from that lot and take a pic. I think we've found collectively 27 tax tokens there so far.

WTG! CONGRATS!

Model T Key!!!! I found one exactly like it and researched it. Better than an old coin. Awesome, just imagine that car driving down the street and it will take you back in time!
