Trench on Beach Produces Silver

Went to the beach last Sunday looking for Diggummup. I couldn't find him, but I noticed they were digging a trench on the beach next to the boardwalk. They were putting in pipes for showers and lights, I guess, and a footing for a new wall. I hate finding clad, so I jumped in, hoping for something old. About a half hour produced one silver 1946 dime, a 1962 zip top.

A couple days later, I decided to go back at nite and try again when the workers were gone. In about an hour, I found 4 quarters, 10 silver dimes, and wheat pennies! ;D I was finding silver on every third hit! Not bad for an easy digging beach. This is the way MDing should always be, (I thought to myself.) I worked til it got dark. I wished the Ace 250 had a lit up screen.

I came back the next night, armed with a flashlight and camera, hoping to finish the job. I was too late. The trench was partially filled in. The next few hours produced only pennies and modern trash. :(

I went back last nite and worked the piles, but only found pennies. :(
Well here are the pics I took after the ditch was partially filled and my coins. It is obviously not a great find, but Ill take it. :) ;D

Thanks everyone. The trench started around Pierce Street and is now at Hollywood Blvd. behind the dunes, and construction is headed south. I dont know how far south they are planning to go but it could possibly be for a couple miles. Im going out of town on a wild hog hunting trip and wont be able to search the trench the rest of this week. If anyone lives in the Hollywood/Hallandale area they may hit a hot spot and do better than I. Please post pics. ;D
Nice finds,BigC.I wish I would of heard my phone ringing that morning when you called.I could barely hear the signals in my headphones it was so windy that weekend. All I found was a cellphone and clad.I was at the north end of the beach just south of N.Beach Park at Sheridan st.I'll check out the beach and see how far south they are gonna go,tommorrow afternoon if i'm lucky! Good luck on the hog hunt! Post some pics when you get back,if you get one.PS- depending on what part of the state your hunting,it's gonna cool off this week, especially to the north of us.

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

Im leaving tonight. We stay in Indiantown.

The trench is behind the dunes at about Hollywood Blvd., last I checked, and I wasnt finding anything there. When they break out into the flat open beach part where there was more people traffic the silver should be there again. You may also check the piles in front of the Edgewater Hotel. Be careful around the workers. They leave by 6 PM.

Great on the finds, Cy! Congrats!

Re: Trench Update

I went to check out the beach trench this morning. It appears they are continuing the dig toward Hallandale. ;D But I was a little late. Footprints and holes were all over from an MDer. I could see abandoned beer cans next to some holes. The trench itself was no longer deep enough for silver. I didnt find anything but pennies and clad. I hope whoever was there found something good and will post pics. ;D ;D

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

LOL,it wasn't me.I throw away all my garbage. :) There's a couple guys that i've seen out there before. Both use Excaliber1000's,both leave holes and i've watched both throw stuff to the ground. One's tall and skinny and wears speedos all the time and the other is an old man that walks funny, sort of side to side.I don't think they visit this forum or maybe they just lurk.I smirked a remark at one of 'em one day a while back about throwing crap back on the sand.Called him a slob or something to that effect.I even cover my holes in the sand,I mean how hard is it to swipe your foot anyway? Anyway,it's too bad, idiots like that give us all a bad name.

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

It really wasnt that bad. I didnt mean that. I am used to looking at tracks or footprints. He appeared to pick up all his finds except a couple of beer cans and large metal. He covered the area quite well by his footprints. I just hope he found something because I didnt. ;D

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

Nice going, Ten silver dimes Wow . That is how it should be. LOL :o

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

I think this trench will still produce silver when virgin beach is dug... All I have to do is beat the Excalibers! ;D ;D ;D

The Ace is a dime-finding machine! 8)

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

I havent been to the beach in over a week, so I went the other night. I found a 1953-D silver quarter and 4 wheats in about 15 minutes before getting rained out. The silver quarter was laying on top of the sand pile in plain view where the bucket dropped it.

I went again last nite but found nothing but aluminum blown by the wind. I am surprised how much wind blown sand can build up in one day on top of the piles and in the ditch.

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

Man those are some great finds. How does the ACE 250 do down near the water. I have an ACE and do really well with it here in Ohio. Hopefully someday I'll get back down to Fla. and do some hunting. I use the ACE all the time now. I also have a Detector Pro and Tesoro Tiger Shark for water use.

Thanks for the post and I envy you and diggumup.

Funny, I never liked the local beach because old finds could not be made and most all the coin finds are clad. This trench is being dug far from the surf at the duneline. I dont think the Ace does well down near the water. I also have a HH Detector Pro PI for the surf which I use on the Treasure Coast Beaches. The Ace works well for silver coins away from saltwater. Especially dimes. If the screen says its a dime, it usually is. Good for small gold too. I wish I could have spent more time in this Hollywood trench or the surrounding piles. I think I missed out on a lot of silver.

;D ;D Lesson learned here. :-X Next time I dig the silver first, then post the story after the fact. ;D
I knew I would be out of town and I might as well share the location. I just wish I could see pics of the other finds. There was a stampede of footprints on those piles. Funny that one day I make some quick finds and the next day its so clean I cant even find a pop top! :o :)

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,59317.msg423780/topicseen.html#new

After reading this post on the Florida Isolated Finds Law, I am wondering if I have broken the law. :o Do I need to report these barely 50 year old insignificant public property finds to the state to prevent an early morning felony raid on my house? ::) ??? This story has been read over 2000x by who knows who and I have had some strange e-mails. :-\ Or should I throw the coins back in the ditch. :D

Re: Trench on Beach Produces Silver

Congratulations on the silver quarter and the other finds from your hunts. It is really too bad about the detectors that leave the holes and trash in your area.

I currently have one here doing the same and getting MDing banned. Still hope I can see that guy out there soon and see why the holes and trash.

I guess holes in the sand doesn't get MDing banned. That's pretty cool really.

Great finds,
