Oh brother....got down to a well known treasure beach. I knew they were in the middle of a beach renourishment that will seal this spot under rock, brick, and concrete. There was a slim chance that between back hoes and excavators that I might be able to sneak in and get a coin or 2 before this spot is done for good !! Well it was worth it and I got a 1659 marevedi and a cut spanish silver in the same hole...within 4 inches of each other !! What a thrill !! 20210215_193300.jpg

Both coins are uncleaned and as dug.....you can see that they were free of saltwater for the most part, as they are not to corroded. The marevedi is killer with all sorts of counter stamps and markings ive yet to decipher. Ill have to start researching to understand what im seeing. I guess there is a slight chance that this coin is a 1559...?? Not quite sure yet. Not sure how these coins were made but almost looks hammered. 20210215_193231.jpg20210215_193217.jpg
The cut silver does not show much right now but I can see some details struggling to come out. The faint print of a cross is there under a sulfide crust. Distinct cut marks on 2 sides....still wondering what denomination it is....not sure if ill ever know. What a thrill...getting right up in there during the dig and snatching some coins out !!20210215_142334.jpg20210215_142344.jpg
Big shout out to islamoradamark.....thanks for sharing the excitement with me and digging with me !! Wooo hoooo !! Treasure coins !! A little bitter sweet knowing that many other coins were dug and loaded into dump trucks and hauled away....at least I saved a couple of them....got a nice Concho or rosette also....got to take a pic !! Thanks for looking and happy hunting folks !! Woooo hoooo !!

I must say without islamoradamark closely monitoring the site i could have easily missed the opportunity it was a total team effort, and the timing on the third day was just perfect !! Walk up, put the coil down to the ground, detect for 15 minutes, and walk away with 2 cobbs and a pillar dollar. After it was over I know everyone was in disbelief. I had waited since hurricane irma for this and was there at exactly the right moment to reap the rewards. I don't think many people believed me when I kept pointing and saying that when the machine gets here(a 20 foot strip) were gonna get some coins. The fact that all my hunches and theories were right adds an incredible amount of satisfaction to the finds !! Wooo hooo !!

We Probably could have found more without the interference of 20 tons of iron parked on top of the coins !!20210215_142110.jpg

A well deserved treasure for islamoradamark yesterday....wow what a beauty !! Spit up by the excavators from a 6-8 foot depth !! Its truly been a special week !!

:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: you guys are on fire!
Its been a wild ride !! Had to work today....but I'll be back in the morning to snoop around....I think we are out of the treasure now with the excavators, but its hard to stop looking !!

So here is a little about Chuck mitchell....he was a great treasure hunter who told me to be ready for this digging event someday....I never thought it would happen in my life time.IMG_0414.jpg
Here he is holding the noon canons that made him famous. They also made him some good money. He was a crazy old hippy soul !! He used to play a flute for the ladies at the bar !! To me he was Chuck the guy who found the cannons. He was a ladies man and was often seen at the bar telling treasure tales to the young ladies. He wore the 70s style gym shorts and I remeber one time he had a white t shirt that said bona-fide certified on the back, and treasure hunter on the front !! Man that guy could tell stories.Screenshot_20210219-163723_Chrome.jpg open this screen shot and it will explain just what a noon canon is.....its pretty incredible piece of nautical equipment. He once was telling me a tale of treasure in cay sal, and said if ya ever get there bart don't be scared of the U.F.O.s that come out of the ocean there...they don't ever bother anyone !! He was a 1733 expert thats for sure he said that 960 pillar dollars were buried under the road. He said he found out some info from a survivors diary...how and from where that info came I never knew. I now know that there were at least 2, cause thats how many I've found there.....my avatar is the same coin from years ago !!
