I hit one of my usual spots that had been destroyed by Sherman's troop as they pillaged their way through South Carolina. This particular spot once comprised of a hotel and stage coach stop and was adjacent to a town center. Previous finds included canister shot, cannon fragments a few militia pieces, etc. Today, amongst my discoveries, I found a portion of what I believe to be a valved piece of a horned instrument. It appears to be brass and doesn't look damaged. Does this look familiar?

It sure looks like valve of some type or a quick disconnect fitting of some sort.

It looks like off of a instrument for sure. I would be interested in finding out myself. Congrats on the recovery

that's really cool, man so much potential in that piece, gets the mind going !!

It is an automatic valve for the end of a powder flask or shot flask for a muzzleloading firearm. Sometimes these were also
installed on a powderhorn. Considering the history of the site, my bet is a powderflask.
Good find. HH

Thanks for the id. I googled the powder flask and within seconds was able to verify the find.

Very nice. I have one just like it. It's a measured pour spout from either a powder flask or a shot flask.

Very nice find. Congrats! Good to see treasure coming out of the Carolinas. GL&HH!
