To our Moderators....please consider this....Magnet Fishing Thread?

Okay, I got my magnet in, bought some rope and gloves. I bought some loctite to try and secure the eye bolt, but it doesn't seem to work that well. What do you guys use? I may try superglue? I really hope we get a magnet fishing forum. Anyway, I'm gonna try to go next weekend. And will report back here.

What's wrong with a thin lock washer... even top and bottom? AND.... wax all the threads (with wax) and then go forward. When I used to shoot pro archery I waxed all critical threads and fasteners to hold their intended purpose.

I guess that would work....
My experience is from reading others experience, which is hard to find....

This week, Tnet member deerhuntinghippie posted a thread about magnet fishing....Fascinating!
This is a subject that has been discussed many times over the years, and is practiced by a few members on a regular basis. Yes, it is a niche form of treasure hunting, but it is gaining popularity as the Internet holds lots of information for enthusiasts.
I have searched high and low for similar threads in our forums, and was able to find dozens of previous posts, some with pages of responses. Problem is, they are spread out among a half dozen different forums, the original posters have had nowhere specific to discuss the hobby.

Certainly this won't be a heavily traveled forum, but I feel that this form of treasure hunting deserves the recognition of its own section.

My enthusiasm isn't just associated with watching and learning about magnet fishing, but I am also excited to be jumping into the hobby myself.

So, where could I post pics of my latest finds?

Thank you for time, and consideration....
And if I may, is there any support from other members?

Magnet Fishing Forum, not thread, title error

I have a problem with the bolt sticking out the bottom of my magnet. Doesn't get the proper grasp it should. Any suggestions?

Here's an idea.... Make sure the eye bolt has more than enough threads for the application. Run a nut on the eye bolt first and install eye bolt onto the magnet. Loctite the threads and tighten the nut now down onto the magnet. Would this work....?

For the veteran magnet fishermen here: what type of knot do y'all use? Is there a certain type that is commonly recognized as being the best?

I've alway's used this one for fishing, and has alway's worked. I use it on my magnet. bd49e4a00849d33ae784d67aeb29dbb3.jpg

Word to the wise, put the magnet in a plastic holder so that everything you bring up can be easily removed from the magnet.

Not sure what you think you will find with a magnet, but there will be millions of rusty fish hooks, 2.5 tons of iron filings, and all sorts of rusty crap.

Sorry, but the angle bracket looks like a great way to lose a magnet..

there are these.

Magnet fishing is the same as metal detecting. You don't know what your going to find, and that's the thrill. At least you won't get pulltabs:icon_thumleft:

Do you have the website for OX Magnets? Thanks

Ya why not, it is a different form of dirt/water fishing, and Canadian coins will stick to a magnet.
Yes!

Thanks. I think that is called not only a "fisherman's knot" but a "heaving line" knot. I'm gonna give it a go, thanks!!!

To the OP the idea sounds like fun. I disagree on one point though.

"Certainly this won't be a heavily traveled forum, but I feel that this form of treasure hunting deserves the recognition of its own section. "

As more are exposed to the idea it might very well catch on. This is an activity that can done without really expensive equipment.

Thanks for your support....
Fingers crossed that a Magnet Fihing forum can become a reality....

Got my vote.
Why not.
After all...
it is sorta a form of Treasure hunting.

Treasure is in the eyes of the beholder.

I'm gonna try the magnet fishing out. Going to be a bit cold and a little late start in the season but why not.

I am going to try out a little magnet fishing myself.

What about the magnet in a old subwoofer? I had a 12 that was pretty stout. Has anyone tried to salvage one of those to use?

If I try this, I'd use a palomar knot. Retains 95% strength. Adds an extra wrap around an eye for abrasion insurance. Simple to tie in the dark.
