Thought I'd play a little hide & seek today

Walked around the mansion trying to figure some of those little, out of the way places where a coin might hide.

Unfortunately, they're pretty darn good at the game! After all, they have hundreds of years of practice on me! ;)

The bullet near the 8 inch mark appears to be copper jacketed? Pretty big too! :dontknow:

I did, however, find this large old button hiding in the crook of a VERY large/old tree! I could just see Tom Sawyer climbing up this tree when they were both just young saplings. Losing a button along the way. :)

The little thing at the bottom is the loop to the button, complete with a few threads of cloth! It fell off as soon as it hit the air.

I don't know my buttons very well. But, it appears to be quite old. No backmark that I could see but the front definitely has some sort of design.

Think I should clean anymore? :icon_scratch:

Put some olive oil on it, looks like you cleaned it nice, very nice find. Congrats

I have to ask...is that a real lizard!?

As much as I love my Blingie, I can only wish it were so. ;)

No, he came from one of my hunts. An eyeball find. I included him in one of my pics and just liked seeing him there.
Pretty realistic though, huh. :)

Trouble I've had in the past with putting olive oil on these is that the design is really pretty much gone. The only reason I can see it is that there's a bit of contrast in the dirt left in the etch. I'm afraid that if I put it in oil, I won't be able to see the design anymore. That seems a shame cuz I think this just might be very early 1800's maybe even colonial.

I might still try it though, thanks!

Yea Whadifind his pose looks real! You should put him in a pic of everything you find. He can be your mascot and it had me fooled haha. I was like this guys lizard is totally checking out this guy's relics!

Yep. He does go through everything! :) He got his name because he simply HAS to try on every bling I find. LOL

He's been around for a short time and I think I'm going to keep him. ;)

Thanks!

Never found a lizard...tons of rustly old most likely lead paint matchbox cars though lol. I will wait until I find a little creature to use as my mascot haha. You found yours! Blingie rules!

You button looks like a tombac. Colonial era. Very nice with the design

"Tombac"!! That was the word I was trying to remember!

Yeah, I do believe that's right. I've attempted to do a small bit of clean up. Best I could do.

I'd have to say that if this is colonial, it is the best conditioned one I've ever found.
Don't know if the pics do justice. There's a design around the edge and a flower/sunburst sort of something in the middle.
The loop is there too, it just fell off when it hit the air.

The back on this seems to have quite a bit of original, grey luster.

Thanks!
