This is my 100th post which now makes me a full member here at T-Net, :hello2: I'm glad its a good one. :D
Yesterday It was very foggy and kind of cold here in Washington. I decided to try real trashy park nearby to try its tot lot. When I got there I found the tot lot fenced off with a backhoe parked in the middle of it so I couldn't hit it. I didn't feel like dealing with the mega trash this particular morning so I decided to finish gridding the park I found the Chinese coin in a while back. Didn't find much of anything but trash there so with only an hour left to hunt I decided to head to the park I like to call the dime park because that's practically all I ever dig there.
Someone had gone through there recently and left all there holes unfilled and just left all there pull tabs and trash sitting right in those open holes. :angry5: My random wanderings over the next 45 minutes only produced a lot of trash and 4 pennies. :( I was feeling pretty discouraged and just kind of meandering back to my car when I hit another penny signal. I almost walked away but said to myself "Self", I said, "Pennies are money. Lets just make it an even nickle and go home".
After I dug the plug I looked in the hole and saw what looked like another wine seal. I reached in and grabbed it and to my surprise it was HEAVY. That's when I realized it was gold! :hello2: Normally my detector thinks rings are nickles but this ring was vertical in the ground so the round top was up making it indicate a coin. I tucked it in my treasure pouch and headed for the car. When I got there I pulled it out and wiped away the mud and sure enough there was the 14K mark.
When I got it home I did a quick weighing and it it a 15.8 gram 14K gold mans ring. I'm glad such a nice find could be my 100th post. ( I guess 100th posts are lucky :DThank )you for reading this and H.H. everyone.

I'm over in Walla Walla and freshly addicted to the hobby! Looking to get my first detector in the near future, good to know there are good finds to be had in this state!! Congrats on the gold, especially with it being $1,700+ an ounce!!

Thank you,
It is nice to know, Isn't it. Its also nice to know you don't need a $1000 detector to find them.
At times they seem to be far between. Like I said in the original post, I was feeling pretty discouraged when I found this one. My finds for the year are only 8 rings, 5 total junk, 1 gold filled, 1 silver and this big gold one, a couple silver plated bracelets and about a million pull tabs. If you look at my other posts you will see the 9' long chain I made of most of the tabs I dug between July and last week. As far as money I've dug over $50 in change which includes more than 500 pennies (that's a lot of freakin pennies ) My personal record is 51 pennies in one day. Only one of those was a wheat (1958). My detector came with a pin pointer but not a very good one so I was saving up my finds for a Garret pro pointer, I insist on this stuff paying for its self, This ring not only pays for the pro pointer it pays for the detector as well. :D
Have you decided on what detector your getting?
Funny you should ask! I just posted in General discussion asking peoples opinion on the garrett Ace 250, as it seems to have the most bang for the buck and the negative reviews are few and far in between, but I wanted people that actually use it regularly to provide me with some much valued insight on it! I really want to focus on Silver (as I'm guessing most people do,) and want to make sure the Ace 250 wont miss the silver beauties! Any opinions/advice?

Everybody here seems to LOVE the ace 250. I've never heard anything bad about it except that the volume was too loud and not adjustable, my F2 has the same problem but I managed to snag some metal detecting headphones at saint Vince for $5 that have independent sound adjustments which I need because I have more hearing loss in one ear than the other. People talk about the ace 250 a lot. I have no complaints about my F2 except it doesn't like wood chips in tot lots and the external speaker quit working, not a biggie with me since I always use headphones anyway. My next one is going to be an AT Pro because I want something that's waterproof. One thing is make sure you also get a pin pointer. It saves a LOT of time and effort AND makes your holes Much smaller. My f2 came with a Fisher Fpoint which is OK but you have to get within a half inch or so before it goes off. I also got one from harbor freight. The harbor Freight one works much better, well it did until I dropped it in some salt water. Who would have thought that a $16 Harbor freight pin pointer wasn't waterproof :dontknow:
Anyway, I think you will probably like the Ace.

Great ring, better than your aluminum chain you showed us earlier in the week. I'm still looking for my first gold. My 2 brothers and son have struck gold but I'm still just a silver and clad guy. lol Dan

It may be better but it took every one of those pull tabs and more before I finally hit gold. :D
The gold is out there you just have to pass your coil over the right spot and decide its worth digging for.
Hope you find yours soon. :icon_thumleft:

Nice, I need to get out and swing. It has been a while since I could even pick it up to MD. Congrats.

Sweet ring. :headbang: I know the feeling of hole not being filled. I had a mayor of a town yelling at me for someones elses holes. This Spring Im trying a very trash area and theres lots of it. HH

Thank you. I've been lurking around here. I don't post that much I spend most of my time reading others posts and trying to help in what is it forum so 100 is quite a milestone for me, not to mention the ring.

I know. I almost got kicked out of a park in Seatac last spring because of someone leaving big holes unfilled but when the head groundskeeper saw how careful I am he said he has no problem with me and now leaves me alone. Also a couple weeks ago I got the cops called on me by some (for lack of a better word) lady who said I was "digging up the park", the cop pulled up and just asked if I was filling my holes back in. I showed him and he was happy. It may take a little extra time to refill and take away the trash but its the right thing to do.

It astounds me how bent outta shape people get, and how much they pry into business that most assuredly is NOT theirs. Being new to the hobby, I had no idea how political and diplomatic such a low-key hobby (or so i thought) really is.

Most people don't give you much trouble as long as you are friendly, you don't here much about them because it's just not interesting to say "15 people were nice to me today!" In reality its not really that bad. Some people are going to be that way no matter what you do. That's one of the reasons I prefer to go out early in the morning. That's also why I research townships before detecting in parks. Some towns require a permit and so do state parks. Some state parks are off limits completely so its important to know where you can hunt. Its usually pretty simple, I just look up the towns website and do a search for "metal detecting" or "metal detection". This will usually turn up anything that may be problematic. At this point if there is any doubt I call the towns parks department and ask. So if someone does call the cops you can honestly tell them you have permission to hunt.

Nice goldy!!
