This is my 100th post which now makes me a full member here at T-Net, :hello2: I'm glad its a good one. :D
Yesterday It was very foggy and kind of cold here in Washington. I decided to try real trashy park nearby to try its tot lot. When I got there I found the tot lot fenced off with a backhoe parked in the middle of it so I couldn't hit it. I didn't feel like dealing with the mega trash this particular morning so I decided to finish gridding the park I found the Chinese coin in a while back. Didn't find much of anything but trash there so with only an hour left to hunt I decided to head to the park I like to call the dime park because that's practically all I ever dig there.
Someone had gone through there recently and left all there holes unfilled and just left all there pull tabs and trash sitting right in those open holes. :angry5: My random wanderings over the next 45 minutes only produced a lot of trash and 4 pennies. :( I was feeling pretty discouraged and just kind of meandering back to my car when I hit another penny signal. I almost walked away but said to myself "Self", I said, "Pennies are money. Lets just make it an even nickle and go home".
After I dug the plug I looked in the hole and saw what looked like another wine seal. I reached in and grabbed it and to my surprise it was HEAVY. That's when I realized it was gold! :hello2: Normally my detector thinks rings are nickles but this ring was vertical in the ground so the round top was up making it indicate a coin. I tucked it in my treasure pouch and headed for the car. When I got there I pulled it out and wiped away the mud and sure enough there was the 14K mark.
When I got it home I did a quick weighing and it it a 15.8 gram 14K gold mans ring. I'm glad such a nice find could be my 100th post. ( I guess 100th posts are lucky :DThank )you for reading this and H.H. everyone.

Thanks,
I hope it doesn't take you 100 posts to find gold, but I hope your 100th is a good one too.

Nice chunk o gold ya got there!!!!

nice ring!!! MR TUFF

I'm over in Walla Walla and freshly addicted to the hobby! Looking to get my first detector in the near future, good to know there are good finds to be had in this state!! Congrats on the gold, especially with it being $1,700+ an ounce!!

Ive noticed that a lot of rings are found & posted but not any replies about how old the ring may be or its value. I don't know much about them myself. Is it hard to judge how old they are or do they make certain styles for decades which would make it difficult to put a date on? This one "appears" to be old to me. I was just wondering. I'm a curious person by nature.

Thank you,
It is nice to know, Isn't it. Its also nice to know you don't need a $1000 detector to find them.
At times they seem to be far between. Like I said in the original post, I was feeling pretty discouraged when I found this one. My finds for the year are only 8 rings, 5 total junk, 1 gold filled, 1 silver and this big gold one, a couple silver plated bracelets and about a million pull tabs. If you look at my other posts you will see the 9' long chain I made of most of the tabs I dug between July and last week. As far as money I've dug over $50 in change which includes more than 500 pennies (that's a lot of freakin pennies ) My personal record is 51 pennies in one day. Only one of those was a wheat (1958). My detector came with a pin pointer but not a very good one so I was saving up my finds for a Garret pro pointer, I insist on this stuff paying for its self, This ring not only pays for the pro pointer it pays for the detector as well. :D
Have you decided on what detector your getting?

That's true,
Unless a ring is dated or a particular style that has gone out of fashion its often difficult to tell its age. I don't think this ring is very old actually. Mainly because it was only 3 inches down. I found my first pot pipe at this park, it was about 8 inches deep and still packed with identifiable pot. I figure the pipe was probably 70s or 80s. because the dimes and other items I find here seem to sink fairly quickly too. I often find change from the 70s at about 6 inches so I figure a heavy gold ring at 3 inches can't have been lost more than 5 or 6 years at the most. It is entirely possible it was an old ring that was recently lost but since gold doesn't tarnish it makes it difficult to know for sure.
As far as value, unfortunately I think it only has scrap value which depends on where you take it. Some places give as little as 40%. I sell my scrap to Midwest and they give me 90+% of spot (for anyone who doesn't know that's the market price of gold ) so if spot is $1700 an OZ I get $1530 for each Oz of pure gold. Since 14K gold is 58.8% gold that makes it worth $895.05 Oz, which is $28.87gram, so 15.8 grams has a scrap value of $456.18 or there about. I think spot has been plunging lately (this always happens when I have metal to sell) so it would be a little less than that.

Funny you should ask! I just posted in General discussion asking peoples opinion on the garrett Ace 250, as it seems to have the most bang for the buck and the negative reviews are few and far in between, but I wanted people that actually use it regularly to provide me with some much valued insight on it! I really want to focus on Silver (as i'm guessing most people do,) and want to make sure the Ace 250 wont miss the silver beauties! Any opinions/advice?
