Re: These Guy's Must've Been Close.....

Knowing some of the battles they may have thrown them at each other. Nice Cw bullets.

Re: These Guy's Must've Been Close.....

Nice history you found there! congrats!

Re: These Guy's Must've Been Close.....

fighting hand to hand isn't pretty -- the kicking and punching and stabbing and pistols at point blank range -- easy to see how bullet pouches got knocked open or a hand full of bullets were dropped to free your hands for fighting up close-- if one only had a single shot rifle when a foe got close you didn't have a chance to reload -- so it was used with the bayonet or as a club -- if you sat there trying to reload you would be stabbed or beaten to death by the enemy -- it was common to hold a few shots in hand as the enemy charged your position to try to shot as many of them as fast as you could (the attacker normally would shoot on the run as well (to make you keep your head down and throw off your aim )so he too might have a few rounds in hand or if he took the spot from the defenders -- might have changed roles from attacker to defender)-- if the enemy reached your lines however then it was hand to hand combat time --yank your pistol (if you had one) and shoot till it was out then use a knife or your rifle as a club or if it had a bayonet use it --for those without a pistol the rifle was used with the bayonet or as a club to keep the knife welding or other gun- club /bayonet enemy folks off them .--- not a pretty mental picture .--- one of the two droppers most likely died in the "in close" fighting --possibly both -- up close "in your face"" fighting of the civil war era was very dangerous --even if you "got him" --he might "get you" too in the process.

What kind of bullet is that 2 ringer? (Remember I'm still learning this stuff.)
The bullet is a Confederate Gardner and you know what the other one is.....just one more this year for a "12 pack" ;D

Re: These Guy's Must've Been Close.....

Well, I haven't seen your yesterday post, but if that little patch of dirt in the first picture is where you hunted, then I can relate to the conditions. :-X :D Everything around here is waist high. :-\

Super finds, Civil!!! Always wonder who and why. That makes it more interesting for sure.

Nana :)
