TH'ers might get your wish but..........

its going to turn into a curse. Mark my words that if Ernesto travels up the Treasure Coast, you better be hunting soon after it leaves. I bet the Sheriff will lock the gates >:( and kick everybody off the beaches like they did last time.
I'm not even going to bother driving down there next weekend unless someone says different. Good luck to those of you who try.

Even if I were in Florida now, which I'm not, I wouldn't chance beach hunting right after the storm. Looters and vagabonds are gonna be on the prowl for unsuspecting victims and treasures of their own.

But if those who do choose to try it, take a friend and stick close together. Looters are also cowards, generally, looking for the easy score.

I'll be there in November; that'll be soon enough for me. I may be a chicken, but at least I'm a live chicken :-\

Re: TH'ers might get your wish but..........

Geesh DFIU,you make it sound like New Orleans a week after Katrina. It's not like that on the Treasure Coast beaches.Besides,it's gonna be a little storm and might not even reach hurricane strength.Believe me,if you can be the first person on the beach after a good storm you have the best chance of being one who recovers some real treasure. If,you have done your research and know where to look, that is.There are certain areas which have a history of producing treasure on the beach after a good storm. And the real treasure hunters know exactly where they are."The early bird gets the worm" or "you snooze you lose", whichever you prefer. ;D H.H.

You gotta admit, that there is some funny stuff! ;D ;D

Re: TH'ers might get your wish but..........

No, Diggummupp, I'm not comparing Katrina and New Orleans to the Treasure Coast.

I visit the Treasure Coast 3 times a year, so am no stranger. I was there immediately after Jeanne and helped my mother, who had to relocate due to the hurricane. So I don't just get my facts from CNN.

And I've read on too many forums experiences of those who have had unpleasant confrontations while beach hunting, everywhere from Florida to Maine, California to Alaska. It happens in little city parks here in the Midwest, too, so it's not just a Florida thing. But where the population is higher, the risk is higher; that is what I'm trying to say.

So if you consider my opinion as "funny stuff", so be it.

Re: TH'ers might get your wish but..........

This storm, as of right now, will possibly do some minor damage but should do a good number on the beach. I'm ready to leave as soon as I'm reasonably sure where it is going. Get out on the islands early, find a inconspicuous hole and wait it out. Immediately after it passes, get out on the beach. You won't be alone, there are a number of us that regularly work the storms. Looters and the occasional derelict look for an easy target. Don't appear to be one.

Be alert to what is happening around you and deal with it IF it becomes necessary. Until then, just keep on your merry way and find more treasure.

The Vero/ Wabasso Beach area of the Treasure Beaches are very safe, a beautiful area, a real treasure, mostly good rich people live there. Not to worry.

Now Ft. Pierce is a different story. It has abandoned areas with the old Colored Beach strip where a car break-in on the beach everyday is the norm. I would be careful south of Ft. Pierce Inlet. Too close to Riviera Beach, which has the largest crime per capita in the country, I was told.

I dont know about Sebastian.

I have a spot picked out I can duck into and hide out in up near the inlet. I haven't really decided if I'm going to work the Cabin up there or down around Turtle. I do like Turtle. I'll probably decide when I see which beach is cut up the best.

[/quote] Good info. BigC.The Vero/Wabasso area is what I was refering to in my earlier reply to DFUI.I must be too big and ugly for people to mess with,i've never had a problem while out detecting anywhere.I do bring a firearm inland when in remote areas though.Never know, better safe than sorry.DFIU,hope you didn't take offense to what I said.It wasn't intended to poke fun at you.It was just to let you know that if you want the good stuff you had BETTER be one of the FIRST ones on the beach after a storm.I'm sure i'll get no arguments with that statement.Take care everyone,I hope you guys find something good after the storm. It's good to have family that lives on the barrier island/s.I still don't know if I can get off work in the morning though,I guess the storm will tell that.I'll check back later,H.H.!

Re: TH'ers might get your wish but..........

I would like to hook up with someone in the area to possibly hunt with. I live in Ocala, so it is a fairly short trip, and I am flexible as to when I am going to come down, and would really like to meet some fellow TH'ers to hunt with now, and in the future. I believe in safety in numbers, and enjoy the camraderie that TH'ers share. :)

Hey, no offense taken at all, Diggummup. I can see now from this thread and some others that the true beach hunters on this forum are collectively "street smart" in what they're doing.

Best of luck to you and all the other Treasure Coasters following Ernesto's departure.

Oh yea, please leave a few pulltabs for me so I can find at least something in November. Will be in the Port St. Lucie area Nove 12 thru Thanksgiving. Mom and Sis live in the area.
