hmmm tintin interestig how your mind works.
Thanks IPUK....
Balkan based mafia like orgs are one strong possibility...the cosa nostra or Sicilian mafia currently is lying low after the arrest of t he last boss of bosses years back and the presumed successor to the boss of bosses role is a fugitive,,,hence it is more oper ating in localities at the moment with lower profile as much as possible though still alive and kicking,,,the other mafia like org the caramorrha of Naples area is not having good time as before either ,,, the Ndrangheta of the Calabria region seems more active these days also inheriting a huge drug business from the Sicilian mafia ,,,,but I dont think they can pull a high tech heist like that...besides balkan based gangs, I suspect also the Russian/Ukrainian mafia on this...given also the lawless area they can retreat to....
Tintin treasure
hmmm tintin interestig how your mind works.
TT yes quite possible too. Many of Russian Ukranian mafia was ex KGB and its successor so a lot of skills to avoid detection, money laundering racketeering no doubt they would have the connections.
Crow
Crow, where's the mighty McKanacki gone with the 'Sybil Conquest' story??
I've been hoping he would ease my suffering by telling us what happened next...?
What's your take on it?
TT, so how are things on the old treasure-hunting front with you?
Found any stories or snippets that have aroused your curiosity?
Thanks for your replies guys.
Crow, thank you for sharing the info on the story. This one gets more and more intriguing and I'm half expecting Sid James and Kenneth Williams to pop up somewhere..
It would be great to know what happened to this mysterious lady doing things before it was generally known for such adventurous women to make their mark.
TT, after time, resources and energy expended, i have fast realised that this game is not for everyone in the conventional sense. You have to know your stuff, have a team around you, a book of contacts and associates, a healthy bank balance you don't mind becoming terminally sick, balls of steel to deal with some real dregs of humanity, willingness to accept all manner of hardship and deprivations, false lead after false lead, then you might just make a few shillings....
Of course there is the upside....
Ahh but this is why you stay under the radar……..and work/employ locals……….and the local animals and plants are mostly something to be aware of and avoid, although there are always a few pointlessly aggressive serpents around……..
Senor Crow and Kanacki, it would seem the biggest investment is time, and time around the location as there are many things you cannot learn from afar, many things that will be shared only after you come to know some of the natives…..
Hello UPIU
I too think Sybil Conquest for some reason to me, sounds like the old carry on movie names

That was the place where she was alleged to have been found wandering with fever most likely malaria.
Here is some more picture of the region.

Perhaps it was some where in these hills she discovered this legendary pool of fire?
Crow
Senores Crow, Tintin and Kanacki…….while it is certainly true about sticking out in different cultures, that can only be minimized and certainly anything out of the daily routine in these places does attract much attention and many eyes you will never notice…….this we cannot change and only minimize as best possible……this is where time come in, with time, we can become part of the routine and less interesting…...
As for whatever gov authorities summoned to your adventure…….many variables with this……for anything that cannot be reasonably hidden, it may be best to engage either military or police to join or escort you…….certainly never a bad idea for protection from the increasing pirates and bad people who will not hesitate to terminate you……..
Doc that is good in theory. A long time ago in the Solomon island we were loading up supplies onto the drumbeat trying to be very low profile at the harbor pier, A kid was watching us with intent, then tugged Kanacki's Shorts and "Excuse me mister are you treasure hunters?"
The reality people gossip and being strangers from the other other side of world sparks intense interest in what your doing and speculation of course. And even when you employ locals. Others will get jealous because they have not been employed whine to local authorities . The ones you employ will talk to their families and before you know it the whole region knows what your up to. We have several names for it Coconut radio, Jungle telegraph ETC.
Irony of world most areas of world is inhabited by some one and there therefore you treading on some ones land. You really depending on what you are doing have a pretence of why you are there.
