Last weekend Iron Patch and Iron Horse were here for a couple days hunting. We found a couple decent sites but the finds were elusive...especially for me! I went back to one of the sites that we first hunted last weekend to give it another shot. I knew there was a decent site there and I just had to take my time. My first two targets were the pewter buttons...one with a nice design. The third target was my find of the hunt...one of the best shoe buckles that I've ever found.

Also found a few coppers including a William and Mary from the late 1600, a worn Liard and one I haven't yet identified yet. It's large and has a wreath around the edge...but nothing inside the wreath is visible. It's a heavy and thick coin... or it may be some kind of a medallion. Of course I got my share of musketballs as well...always welcome!

The final find of the hunt was the gold pocket watch back. Unfortunately it's just gold plated...

I find that Hosting hunters can somtimes hurry you to make finds and take away some concentration . But it looks like you found your groove now . That tombac buckle is beautiful ! And some nice early coins and buttons to boot . nice post ! :icon_sunny: M.R.

That is very true. I always feel the pressure when I have guests and stress about "the next site". The only time I can relax and slow down is after my guest has made a decent find...takes the pressire off.

Nice recoveries Romeo.
Lovin' that buckle. :hello2:
Congrats,
MM

Nice haul Romeo. The wagon wheel pewter button is cool. We have found the same type of button here, along with French marine types. I wonder if they were military? Your going to get lead poisoning lol :headbang:

Well I guess I could have cracked my beer on the hunts here after the first hole instead of waiting until the 19th! Gee thanks for all the Relaxation! :laughing7:

It's usually about getting over the old iron, as was the case for this post... but somehow doesn't have to be the case for Romeo when he is here. Make that 'quality' old iron!

Congrats on some excellent finds! The shoe buckle is very nice :headbang: and I like the back of the watch :icon_thumright: too!

When I first pulled the button from the hole I was hoping for military because I could see that it was in great shape...but I don't think so.

Military or not, they are French. I have only found them on French sites, so that's why I think they are specific; ( French Colonial) but of course I'd have to write a book!! (grin).

Are you talking an exact match for Romeo's button, or just similar? ... because I have found similar at early British sites.

Good to see you didn't get skunked again..love that old buckle! :icon_thumright:
