Tree bark.
Great article, thank you for sharing that! I’ve stayed on the rez in Sault Ste Marie. Never been so cold in my life, freaking snow was 6 feet deep and -22 degrees. The hotel was nice, the Kewadin casino if I remember correctly. My parents are currently on another Chippewa rez for an extended stay. They can have it, I’m staying down here where it is a comfy +22.

Half a small half glass of wine new years eve. Not sure the prior last drink. A beer at a late summer dinner out maybe.

Used to load food on aircraft through a door a few feet from a screaming engine. No no hearing protection.
Never wore plugs at a concert. Oh there were times in front of speakers some hearing protection might have been a good idea.

Many firearms and shooting over time. Sometimes with hearing protection.
Last career involved hearing protection, hardhat, gloves, long sleeves and pants of course, radio, steel toed boots, dust mask.
Not only great in summer heat ; but in an industry where heat wasn't hard to find. Not unlike the prior one.
Ear plugs probably helped more with dust deflection than anything. I didn't measure decibels.

Had two mouse traps set in the hunting blind this year.
They tripped when I fired a shot.
At another shot a knot fell out of a wall plank.
Hi, yeah I worked at Melbourne, Tullamarine Airport from the age 17 to 27 as an equipment driver and loader for the now gone Ansett Airlines. Damn those jets APUs made some serious noise as well as them taxying in to the Gateways and firing up to leave them. I wore ear protection but know how loud it is without them from those times you'd take them off to hear something someone was trying to tell you. You'd have to yell your head off to be heard.
A guy I worked with in our gang, gang typically had six in it back then, a driver and 5 loaders, wandered towards the 737 that was taxying in to the gateway walking straight towards the still running engine! We were screaming at him to stop, no way he could hear us. The only thing that saved him from death was about 10 feet away he tripped on a small refueling earthing dome that they clip an earth lead onto when refueling and landed flat on his face. I thought he was gone. They usually come in under low engine speed but that day they gave it some more grunt as they backed off too early. It was terrifying to watch. Iv never been so happy to see someone fall flat on their face on concrete. 👍

Laughing about the hunting story :laughing7:
But I hear ya on job negligence. And the same with concerts and the rest. My dad was a marine engineer and as much as they tried protection it was inevitable to have hearing loss. Back to the hunting part.... how could you hear one another or the birds when hunting? Of course now they have electronic protection so you can do both. Not much loss yet, it's more the ringing that annoys me now....
My dad had bad tinnitus from his Navy days as a gunner. He never wore hearing protection. 🫤
