Had some good fun ripping around in the Mojave Desert yesterday. Productive too, I found a ghost town site that has remains of 15-20 stone buildings.
Heading back there today with my detector.

Anything under the branches?
I'd say it has a bit of core rot.
Trim the broken part back to the trunk.
If the hollow goes into the main trunk, then it lived it lifespan and serious thought on if it should come down.

I agree, Pepperj it’s an ash tree and it’s got the ash beetle. I didn’t think it was that bad until I seen that branch.

We have that really bad in our area also.
The only thing that is enjoying the beetles are the wood peckers.
Firewood sales now amount to mostly Ash.
Ash flooring is pretty hard, I Recycled some old 1" Ash out of a dry shed and turned it into 3/4" flooring.

Freezing here but despite Himself’s truck being off the road AGAIN… managed to get out for a swing… found my first cut hammered of 2025 so super happy with that! xx

Wow yeah the Chinese copies are crazy! They have copied just about every Minelab Pi detectors. All the ones iv seen the outside looked the real deal but the insides were just a cheap $50 vlf workings. They are copying rare coins, everything! Ebay is rife with fakes.
