In 15 yrs of feeding our feathered friends I have yet to see the Pileated feed at the feeder.
I guess they get enough natural feed in the bush.
Had a pair last spring.
Years prior , no suet but times a single or double passed through.

A lot of oaks in the area getting tired. (Not ancient , but post the distant logging era too.)
Not enough for a lot of them. But a pair can get by.
They work downed timber too at times.
Makes them look bigger!

Yeah rarely see a Pileated in the feeder, and only when I have it was the large open community feeder, no top, and they hang from it.....

Well guys it's been fun getting to know you all through the cool age of motorbikes. I'm sure the others are ready for us to move on as they're probably thinking of blocking us :laughing7: :dontknow:
We should probably get back to treasure hunting before it get's too hot and the snakes come out. Of course some of us will be waiting on snow to melt first :BangHead:

Now I'm off to see some college football finally, and the first this year thanks due to upside down life. it's part of life I keep telling myself. Let's go 2025! Need some change 🙏

I often come across a fallen tree that looked like a bear has been ripping it apart.

Just the Pileated woodpecker having a good time.
Well that's my story-and I'm sticking to it.
I'm not afraid of no bear-its just a woodpecker 🌶.🤣

Yesterday the Pileated woodpecker landed on the pine tree, across the driveway.
The phone didn't produce the best photo.
Went and got the P1000 and went to get a good photo.
It looked at me, and went to the backside of the tree.
Ah, I thought, you want to play that game.
I waited, a few minutes later it peeked around the trunk. Came into view again, great pose.
I focused in, .....the battery expired.🤣

It flew to another bunch of trees laughing as it flew.
I use the Merlin bird app. it has options to play recorded calls. I have fun playing with the Pileated and redheads. A good way to get your birds closer :icon_thumleft:

Is College football like the start of a bad bunion?
Just asking for a friend.

Poor birds, the males think "Oh there's that sexy redhead over there calling me up for some loving"
They fly to the feeder and find a corn cob 🌽.

I am going to say this is a bright idea.

Good morning, everyone. Decent weather forecast today (mid-fifties and partly sunny) so maybe I'll get outside some.

The turkeys came up and cleaned up under the bird feeder yesterday. Mrs. Cardinal doesn't seem too thrilled.
