Good Morning TN Crew! :hello: :coffee2:

So the first image is the "Ivory Billed" woodpecker. Firstly notice the white backline and white tail feathers, slightly different then the Pileated Woodpecker. Supposedly extinct, but inconclusive by the national wildlife committee, due to numerous reported sightings in the southern US swamps. I believe somewhere remote this bird could still exists. We have thousands of acres of undisturbed swamps in the southeast which could I believe could still hold this beautiful bird. I will soon post my personal pics of a possible "cross breed" but not the true Ivory billed.
The second picture is the Carolina Parakeet which is presumably extinct as well. This was determined within the last 60 or so years but I'm also a skeptic. About 13 years ago I was on the outskirts of the Croatan National Forest (one of the Largest in NC), standing in a friends yard when we noticed a (cockateel sized) green parrot up in the tree. The homeowner reported it had visited the year before. It wasn't there long enough for me to picture. I thought for sure it was a neighbors pet that had escaped and could not be captured. But I began to think, if it was seen the prior year, how did this bird survive the winter and how did it fly if most pet birds have their wings clipped. I had also just become very interested into birding, mainly as an avid hunter and love for waterfowl. Not just for the hunt of killing but the hunt of picture taking.
So these days I've become so interested in the search for these two species, and as I become closer to retiring I will be more dedicated on the amazing search. Wish me luck 🕵️‍♂️
Very cool! My dad was an avid photographer and did photos and research for the the Audubon society . I inherited about 200 bird painting/identification/classification books.
Good luck!

I suppose reckon I’m going to have to learn to use y’all too so things won’t go sideways catawampus when I move to Texas. Luckily I’ve been in Texas enough to understand the slang Texan. You guys All y’all wish me luck please. 😬

buona fortuna!

Fahrenheit Mate!! :laughing7: :laughing7: :hello:
😁 I keep forgetting you guys held out on going metric.
Funny though because even though I was in first grade when it changed here I still am more likely to say how deep a target was in inches and how heavy a fish I catch is in lbs. Distance though I got no idea in guessing miles. Still guess heights in feet but a persons weight in kilos. Im a very confusing individual.
98.6f but they have dropped todays from that to 95f with total fire ban for the entire part of our state. There may be storms later, hopefully no dry lightning strikes.

Oh we use metric. My 10mm wrench's and sockets on most of our cars/trucks even though they were made in the USA... Well the bird was made in Van Nuys Commiefornia. :laughing7: :laughing7: :tongue3:

My favorites are the cars that some of the bolts are metric and some of them are SAE. That's always fun.

Tractors and the fire truck are standard. Everything else is metric.
Metrics is bullet proof in figuring out things.
Except temps.
