the protective cover???

i have an ace 250. should i remove the protective cover when in use? will it effect depth or performace?

No you don't have to take off the protective cover on your coil. You must have bought it with your detector.

I always like to take mine off now and then, just to get the sand or dirt out of it. Actually I don't even have one on my ACE 250 coil, but I suppose I should buy one. I just haven't done it yet. I only found 4 thousand clad coins with my ACE 250 last year and a bunch of other great stuff. I have used protective coils on some of my other detectors though.

I would have to agree with Ringfinger.

But remember you should take the coil cover off to clean the coil after use. especially if you were using it in water or muddy conditions.
