I have had permission to detect the neighbor's yard for quite a few years now, but never got around to it until earlier this year. I was in my garage packing my gear to go out when he walked by with his dog and reminded me that I could hunt his yard. I figured why not, it's an older house with a big yard, should at least be a few silver coins....

Last night was my 5th visit since January. I have now recovered about 120 coins including 6 silvers, gold and silver jewelry and other misc. items.

Here are last night's silvers - 1943-P nickel and 1950-S quarter

In a trashy area of the yard where there may have ben a burn pit, I got a signal and pulled out the guts of a pocket watch. I checked with my pin pointer looking for the case, but instead found these two tokens. One is a Pittsburgh Railways trolley token, but its the first of this type I've found. Usually we find the ones dated 1922 with the triangle hole in them. This is probably a later version. The other token just has a 10 in a diamond and is smooth on the back.

Here is most of what I dug in 2.5 hours last night.

I'm sure there are still a couple silver coins waiting for me...

Pretty awesome site you have there- GL the rest of the way!

Neat! Those old Pittsburgh Railways tokens probably could get dated at least to a time frame. I remember those old trolleys. I think one of the last running trolley lines in Pittsburgh was the Shannon- Drake line. I imagine it has some right away still in use on the current system. The Pittsburgh area was once loaded with independent bus companies. Maybe you find some Bamford Motor Coach or maybe Debolt tokens. Nice permission you have there.

Well done, I bet there is may more keepers in that yard! :occasion14:

Nice finds

It's so hard to get it all. Nice big old Carnegie brick home. I've worked in some of those homes in the area they are nice inside

I have found several of the ones dated 1922, but this is the first of this type I've found. I found this about it on the internet, but it still doesn't date it.

The owner is really nice. Said he doesn't care how much I dig, but I'm about done for the year. When I showed him the gold locket I found, it turned out to have his mother's initials on it, but he told me to keep it when I offered it to him. He said I worked hard for it.

Very nice finds, Steve. Thanks for sharing them with us! :occasion14:

Nice job on the silvers and tokens Steve. That yard has been good to you.

Great job pulling a couple more silvers. Love the Pittsburgh Railways token and the fossilized piece of trident gum... Congrats!

Thanks Thad. BTW that's turquoise until proven otherwise :laughing7:

Ya know, that's what I really need. A new, old permission place. Somewhere that helps me to feel like I'm on a new, old adventure.

Good job!

What a beautiful looking house and property Steve! :occasion14:
It always worries me about the amount of soil disturbance that's likely occurred when I see a beautiful lawn and garden features.

The house looks to date to the 1915 - 20 period, so there should be a lot to find there.

Dave, that's the date range I'm thinking too. The owner has lived there all his life, 72 years, but his family didn't build it. I have probably dug over 150 plugs in this lawn, but they have healed up nicely so far. I told him the other day that this will probably be the last time until winter because we are getting into the time frame where the grass doesn't recover very well. He said "I don't care, keep digging". Even when I showed him this gold locket I found, he said those were his mother's initials. When I offered it to him, he said "no you keep it, you worked hard for it". I need to figure what to give him for a gift.

Maybe....make him a show box of some of the finds from there? A history? :dontknow:
