The Grizzly Tales- A First Year Dredger Diary

Thanks kiddo and yeah i started in lyman, there are a few hardrock mines and mined placers. The river bed is mostly worked out gone done. Closer to the high bank is better. The rivers were diverted many times to get at the gold. September im moving to colorado in september to live the golden dream!!

wow, best of luck getting the gold in Colorado
don't smoke too much weed while your there as well

Hit the river with the GF today! Beautiful dsy with sun burn all round! Not bad but that water was beautiful in the 90 degree heat. We dredged about 5 hours. Stayed in one hole and moved about 8 yds of dirt. Finally found some super hard packed gravels. The blaster was Essential when i hit this material. I thought we hit the jackpot as the material was between 2 large boulders stuck in the clay. Did good i guess. I really want a gram plus day soon. We never hit the same hole twice. Never really had to. I bet you guys are jealous that i had my girl to "man my nozzle while i fixed the box". Lol

Am i allowed to ask a mod to transfer this thread to the new prospector journal forum?

A 1 gram day would be awesome. Here is my results from the Wild Am in the last 4 times I went. IMG_0153.JPG

Are you just picking open spots along the river. Or are you in the twin river campground area. Hard to find areas other then the national forest. That aren"t private. Any suggustion"s. Any help will be great. Thanks

Im actually on the campground property $15 isnt too bad for a daily fee. The gold is evenly distributed there pretty much it gets pounded but there is gold. There should be some big gold in the hardpack somewhere.

Every one seems to find gold there. Thanks Grizz. will have to give it a try. The ground gets turned over quite often on that river.Never know where it will turn up.Did you get the info I sent you. About the East Branch of the swift. In Maine. It was on another post about Maine.

Yeah thanks Trip. I did get that! I think im going to pound and pound and pound the breaks off the wild am for a bit. I have an end of summer vacation that im looking to take in maine and do 5 days of hosing before i move to colorado. Prob around labor day. I would like to meet someone in maine who does good.

Grizz don"t know Maine that well. Joined the prospecting club thought. To learn some of the spots. But only been on the Maine Branch and East branch of the Swift. And on there group outings. Which are areas with good parking for a lot of cars.So they get picked over very well. But if you can get farther up the east branch. I think its your best bet for larger gold. Its just getting access. I think you can only dredge to Sept. May want to check out the new regs. Also Rosie at the Coos canyon store may be able to help you out.

Yeah Rosie and me are going to be friends, for now its back to the Wild Am. This will be the 3rd trip to the am. Our haul has gone up significantly each trip. Hopefully tmw we get into the good hardpack. Still waiting on that 1 gram day

Grizz you getting mostly flood gold. Or you down on the bedrock or clay layer. Got to get up there and give it a try. Looks like you got it dialed in pretty good.

Had a .636 gram day at the Wild Am today. Getting closer to a 1 gram day.IMG_0156.JPG
Season total of 1.252 IMG_0159.JPG

VERY nice...hope you set that bigger piece aside as a trophy :)

What a day on the mugga luggin water! Double 4" fest on beautiful silty hardpack on false bedrock. Chef was already waiting... We hit a spot in between 2 previously underworked holes and turned the puny 3'wide pin holes into a 8'x 15' trench 2-4' straight to hardpan. We met Chef in the middle and called it a day. We both had nice chunky stuff... Sorry you almost lost a finger Chef. Ur a TUFF bleeping bleep of bleep dude to crush a sub epidermal cut like that and still dredge all day!! Clean that good with serious peroxide and iodine and that good stuff. I personally superglue my self shut...works great.

Chef we need to see that finger if its still there, and your final clean out. You had some nice shine for sure.

Even though I have a few sore fingers, it was an awesome day on the Wild Am. I got 0.684 grams today of nice NH chunky gold. A new 1 day record for me. Thanks to Grizzly and his friend for moving those big rocks with 5 foot bars, it really paid off. IMG_0164.JPGIMG_0168.JPGIMG_0175.JPG

Totally impressed, great work guys!

Yes sir we moved some taters. I love the giant stuff. One way or the other anything can really be moved by hand. Is it worth it? Alot of the time yes but when it isnt it makes you angry. I wish it was $10 a yard dirt but ill settle for spread out chunkies for now!

I found my 1st nugget!!! Laying right on the clay behind a big rock. I'm going to run the rest of my concentrates before I weigh in for the day but I think I had a 1+ gram day. Grizz Igot it about 100 yards down river from where we were yesterday. Now it's time to celebrate!!!:occasion14:

Finished my clean out and I did it! I had over a 1 gram day. 1.640 grams, thanks to the 1 gram nugget. I only have 3 days left of my 1 week dredging vacation to try and beet it.
