The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

I had done pretty well, until last night and today. The weather getting colder was the final straw... I needed my "lung warmers" today. I had already cheated a bit (5 times smoking half of a butt)... but I went off the deep end today. I'll continue trying. Oh, actually I forgot to note: I didn't use the patches I bought, because they're supposed to go on a hair-free area (note my avatar). But will use them next time (soon).

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

Hi everyone, Kia ora,
I've been thinking of you all and how you're all doing. I've been away 5 days at a biz conference; I managed to work through it, bit by bit = blocks of hours ;D

Something has worked and I haven't partaken of nicotine for about 6 days now.

I know one huge influence!! has been all the people here.

Thanks, Mike

Dude... I don't blame you! I woulda been smoking too if I lost a little fella like that. :'(

Tomorrow is another day! :)

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

I'm right there with you all, but I missed the first by a bit. I'm on my 7th day of Chantix, so today is my last day of smoking. I've noticed that I really don't get anything out of smoking anymore, just a sore throat, so that's helped things along a bit. Really haven't noticed any side effets of the Chantix either, so that's nice.

I have noticed that smokey clothes and hands smell a lot worse than they used to, though. Just another reason to give it up!

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

Hey gals and guys.....I haven't been on here much but do lurk every now and then to stay caught up with ya'.

Way to go to everyone who went smoke-free November 1st! I used Chantix and took my last puff Sept. 26th of this year! That's after 35 years of 2 packs a day. I'm not going to say it was easy, but the Chantix blocked (or at least greatly minimized) all physical symptoms of withdrawal so my attention could be focused on dealing with the mindset of my addiction. I took the Chantix for only a month mainly because I kept forgetting to take them!

No desire to smoke whatsoever!!!! I can even sit in the smoker's breakroom at work and not feel a compulsion to light up. In fact, the smell in there actually drives me back to the non-smoker's breakroom after about 10 minutes!

If you're still struggling to put down the smokes, just keep on quitting. One of these times, your quit will stick! There are a couple of other websites I found for support: Quitnet.com (free although there is a premium membership if you want/need it) and if you're curious about Chantix there's a blog that will show up with you do a search on "chantix." Both kept my attention when the mind was trying to play addiction games with me!

Keep up the good work! It's sooooo worth it to be able to breathe again!

HH.....Barbara

af1733 & Barbara - Very encouraging! Thanks :)

It looks like the theme has been "chantix works"!

I'm still cold turkey (after the patch for 3 days)... It ain't easy, but I think I'm kinda past my "bitchy" isuses. LOL I know now after reading all the possitive comments about chantix, should I fall off the wagon, I know what I'll be getting to help me next time...

Thank you for your support :) And grats on kicking it already yourselves!

Not in defense but on the other hand you have such folks as:
"As an example to others, and not that I care for moderation myself, it has always been my rule never to smoke when asleep and never to refrain when awake.
- 70th birthday speech"

Samuel Langhorne Clemens AKA Mark Twain 1835-1910, 75 years old

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

As a non smoker myself now, I feel free to say this. What caused Samuel Clemens death was probably the annoying sound of someone harping on the many reasons to quite smoking. >:( If people who are trying to quit, needed to hear these types of things, then they wouldn't already be trying to quit. What they need to hear is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel that all ex-smokers do finally reach. Some reach this light sooner than others, but if you can just hang on long enough, it gets brighter and closer with every smoke free minute, hour, day, week, month and year. And it probably won,t be the same light which smokers are getting closer to seeing every minute, hour, day, week, month and year. ;D

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

well said MD DOG, the last thing smokers and those trying to quit needs to hear is the preaching of those telling you smoking is bad and you should quit. Blah Blah. We are smokers not idiots, we are educated and know the dangers, risks, health problems etc. with smoking. We either chose to ignore it and don't want to quit or we are working on climbing over the hurdle to quit.

Someone recently told me while I was cutting back on smokes that " those things are bad for you, you need to quit."

In my head I was thinking...like gee thanks for telling me because I didn't know, and you ought to keep your mouth shut because opening it is bad for you.

Kudos to those who are smoke free still, may you find lots of gold on your next metal detecting trip out for the Karma.

For those still trying and still smoking and wanting to quit keep on going, you will eventually make it. Its like when you first start detecting...and all you find are pulltabs, eventually your hard work and determination will pay off.

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

MD Dog and txkickergirl - Thats right... ;)

And that's why I wrote in my very first post: "Try to keep it positive and fun - without "smoker bashing" or and negative comments... Jokes and Laughs are encouraged! Since it's our post I'll ask that comments that don't belong be removed. Lots of you are nonsmoker's and there is nothing worse than a preachy nonsmoker!"

:)

Now... I have posted some negative things... but thats because they are meant to be encouraging and motivating... not bashing.

We have already recognized that we should be quitting... we already know. Like txkickergirl said... we are not idiots. (Although... I have been accussed of using a Bounty Hunter). I think 99.9% of ALL the posts and replies here have been dead on...

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

If this is direct toward my Mark Twain post, it was meant to be a little humor and cheer you all some. It took me two trys to stop smoking. When I did stop I was at the 3 pack a day mark. I am happy to say I have been smoke free since 1995.

I personally do NOT know where or who it was directed...

YOU have done a great job of quiting...

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

my comment was not directed to anyone here, just in general population, you all know the types from work, family, friends, schools that drill into your kids heads that smoking and drinking are drugs and if your parents do it then they do drugs. It was not because of what anyone here posted. I was just adding my 2 cents, because I got family and friends and even strangers that make comments to me about smoking and quitting.

I didn't see anything wrong with the Mark Twain post, I took it just as it was humor.
