The GOPs latest filibuster threat: Gun Control

I guess when it comes right down to it, the whole gun control issue is based on a basic difference of opinion. The people in favor of gun control believe that if all guns are controlled, or removed, crime will be significantly lowered. The pro gun people believe crime will not go down, and may even increase. That's what it all comes down to. If the gun control crowd doesn't believe that, why do they want to control gun ownership? So all the other noise is just background static.
My own opinion is that even if all guns were removed from society, crime would be the same, or worse. The difference is that using more primitive weapons would mean that the threat of violence would return to the days when the physically largest amongst us ruled. That's all guns do...level the playing field, so to speak. Women would be completely defenseless, as would all smaller, weaker members of society. A bully would be free to wreak havoc without fear of the outcome. No neighbor, unless bigger, and tougher than the criminal, would be able to help. When we talk about gun control, we do it from our current perspective of our somewhat civilized society. Imagine if the debt problem caused us to go through a mighty depression. Not enough food for everyone...no money around, like the Great Depression. Then imagine going through that with no means to defend your family, or property. That situation would, I'm sure, cause some changes in opinion about gun control, though I doubt any of the pro-control people would ever admit it.

Now THAT brings the big question.. What are the signs of "good mental health" to You?

There are many, but it seems to me one that stands out would be the ability to be flexible!

Glad to see our wonderful politicians are worried about the economy, unemployment, deficit, dent, etc, etc. why try and solve any of these "unimportant issues" when we can all do some political grandstanding (ie free fundraising). This is just great!!
No offense, but this is just another smoke screen, IMHO. No politician can fix the economy. That is more than obvious, as they have been trying to do that for several years, with no effect. The only thing politicians can do for the economy is get out of the way. It's too bad we, as a nation, have forgotten that lesson, and the Chinese are applying it. China's entire resurgence is due to one thing.....the use of capitalism. As soon as they started letting people keep the rewards of their labor, their economy took off. In effect, the government got out of the people's way.

This is fundamentally untrue. The Brady Bill was repealed. I'm not the expert on this so I'll leave the rest to Stocky...

The Brady Bill was not repealed, parts of it were declared uncostitutional by Supreme Court, the "Assault Weapons Ban" expired in 2004, it was not repealed....

I will not surrender any rights in the Bill of Rights and no one else has the right to surrender them for me, I was guaranteed them the day I was born an American......

Are people willing to surrender or compromise on the Right of Free Speech,Religion, Freedom of the Press, Assembly, Petition, how about the Right to a trial by a jury of your peers are you ready to surrender or compromise on that too........ What about Grand Jury, Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, Due Process, are people willing to surrender or compromise on them? What about Quartering of Troops in our home, are you ready to compromise on them too?

We will never surrender the 2nd amendment, it is the foundation of the Bill of Rights and what guarantees the rest of the articles in the Bill of Rights, with out the 2nd the others are not worth the paper they are written on....

Again, stop insulting other members or some will find they can no longer log in and post.............

Uhm. Yes.
And about the government takeover,, Maybe you have forgotten What I told you? I am not afraid, I hope intelligent people will prevail. But I watch over my family and yours. Try to please be careful how you peg me?

Sorry Dave, I meant nothing by it. I'm just waiting for you to sign up as a Crispin's Critter so we can make it official. ;)
