I am new to treasure hunting and metal detecting and have some questions. I live in what was called Hands Pass. If the Fitzgeralds were prosiuted for fraude and the cache was found, does that make the cache state property???

Also see my "Help me define" post in the general discussion forum

Thanks Jay

General Rules.
Keep quite! Tell NO ONE!
and keep it out of banks.
IF have to sell anything to convert to current cash, be real careful! Eyes are everywhere now days....even here!

take goverton's advice. put all naysayers on ignore. one man in texas let the naysayers goad him into saying too much and he lost the treasure to them. some of them are professional hunters and they have no morals.

In case you have not been watching the news lately, the socialists in power believe they are entitle to everything you earn or find. >:(

Just go to www.victoriapeak.com and Read about what happened to Doc Noss's wife and her mine claim with the Govt. boys.

Goverton, Not to mention, some of the military people came forth and admitted to the Doc Noss thief. :icon_scratch:

I wonder how many of them went to Viet Nam via LBJ?

that's the rest of the story that will never be told. also they could have wound up like uriah in the bible. remember?

I would doubt that any are alive today and now that is another sad chapter. :(

Interesting findings....its the Fitzjeral gang. The fitzgeralds that were prosicuted for fraud in 1883 worked in DC. 2 groups of brothers in the same time period that were criminals. Too funny. Anyway progress I think is being made.

After another day out walking the woods with my son, success. Found a cave in Hands Pass big enough for 3 to 4 small adults to fit into. Now to convince the wife to let me get a MD. We found some old metal buckets and broken glass in the area of the cave. Where its located on the side of the hill isnt easy to walk. It makes me wonder how long its been there. Inside the cave was very interesting to. Its a triangular shaped shaft about 12 to 15 feet deep into the rock face. Also a crevice exits to above from one side and is slightly above the caves floor. IMO a small fire could have been there to keep someone warm if they were there long.

How long would the walls of the crevice stay charred if a fire was there???

In the opinion of other TH'ers, would you think someone that robs farmers would leave some type of stash to be found???

I don't know if they left goodies in the cave. I would tend to bet they buried in sight of cave entrance. May have left clues on cave walls.

I agree with you Gov. But there are no markings inside the cave. One thought I have is regarding the cave floor. It is higher in the rear of the cave like the dirt was pushed back. So I need to detect the cave anyway. Also there is alot of old broken glass close to the cave on the hillside. So should I assume that if there was anything to be found it is higher on the hill then the debris feild thats lower down the hill????

Thanks Jay
