Pronghorn,

I was talking to BB also. (expanding on what you were talking about, and had posted, and BB's statement of Wyoming was a treestand only place.

Do you have an issue with that?

Well... your post was immediately after my post (meant for BB)in which I stated I did not consider stand hunting as real hunting. I assumed you thought I was saying that you or your hubby were tree stand hunters and you were addressing me. I guess we all should clarify who we are responding to at the begining of our posts.
I know stand hunting is real hunting and has it's place.
However I sometimes let mister knowitall BB get under my skin and have to vent.
My problem and I will take a time out.

I don't recall BB making a statement about Wyo. being a tree stand only state, I think you may have misinterpreted that post. I believe he was talking about where he is currently hunting, NY. I think he tried to clarify that in post number 954 but the way he spells who knows.

Do I have an issue with that? or you? absolutely NOT

Sorry for the confusion, I take full responsiblity.

How many here LOVE to hunt? (or did at one time?) It is funny how hunting has different sets of what is sportsmanlike in different regions. In PA, it is illegal to hunt deer with dogs, and a dog seen chasing deer could at one time be shot on sight for the offence, meanwhile in many southern states it is perfectly legal to hunt deer with dogs. I got to find out why on my very first deer hunt in eastern Virginia, where the deer would run into the thickest swamps imaginable and only a dog would have a chance of ever kicking them out to have a shot at them. Likewise in PA it is illegal and considered VERY poor sportsmanship to hunt bear over bait, while in Maine (and many other places) it is not only legal but is the most common and successful method used. Just an observation from hunting in some different parts of the country.

I will now make a rather lame attempt to tie this back in; every so often we hear of someone finding spent cartridges (shells) in the Superstitions, then leaping to the conclusion that these must have been from some murder done by Waltz or an Apache attack on Peraltas etc - overlooking the fact that hunters do hunt in the Superstitions and are occasionally successful. Mis-idenfication of finds has been a nagging problem for treasure hunters searching for the Lost Dutchman, and continues today.

Good luck and good hunting amigos, I hope you find the treasures that you seek.

Hi Oro & Beth,

Clout shooting, its still done at some archery comps over here by a small number of fans of this type of shooting, it probably originates pre Agincourt,
lobbing a heavy arrow up at an angle to fall onto the advancing enemy,

i think they were fitted with a square or triangular section tip called a bodkin, designed to pierce armour, hence the weight,

bows normally over 100ibs pull generally 120 to140,
the clout in a circle and the size of the circle dependent on the distance,

clout is an old english word for coat, as in breechclout, the clout being the top half above the waist and the lower part the breech, to keep yer bum warm as you were only wearing woolen tights,

Hunting is the way I grew up,
the way I raised my kids,
and hopefully will be the way my grandkids get raised.

Don't know what kind of life I'll have when I no longer can hunt.

Pronghorn,

i apologize, also - I didn't mean to make that last statement sound so sharp in tone - it wasn't meant that way.

These statements is where I got the idea (about Wyoming) from. Maybe I did misunderstand - of course, New York isn't just a tree-stand hunting area, either.

From BB: i was 30ft up in a tree stand and she never knew i was there

i can hunt from the ground but this area is for tree stands .. and i lived in wym for year and 1/2 . i have shot an elk and hunted Ram and antilope, and mules with a long bow...try stucking with a long bow .. you be glad to hunt from a tree stand after a week of that ,....lol

By the way, "legally blind" is:

A person is considered "legally blind", in the USA, when their visual acuity is 20/200 or less in the better eye with best correction ..

So, it doesn't matter what you can see WITHOUT glasses or contacts. It's what your vision is AFTER you have glasses or contacts.

Gossamer - Janiece,

Nice to meet you! Keep bugging them!!!

By the way - Mr. O has failed to say - so I will - another thing we will be doing in October - We will be Mommy & Daddy of the Groom.

Sheesh, disillusioned again. Why can't he stand in with his sheep soiled Levis and round heeled boots? A blooming plutocrat after all. sniffff. a TuX yet. Next you will be telling me that he prefers an air conditioned vehicle instead of one of my purty, faithful, natural air conditioned, mules. sigh.

Not sure but this might help. For those occasions when "purdy" just ain't good enough!

Saw a gal with purple and pink hair wearin a pair of these as earrings the other day.Punk retro I guess. Not suggesting that the mule needs a new doo, though.

HOLA amigos,

Furness thank you, is that the correct name of that type of shoot? I guess my little 55 lb draw Herters would not have been sufficient. Come to think of it, it definitely was not powerful enough, for we were working out to longer ranges and at 150 yards the arrow drop was severe (so holdover was way over the hay bale) and I had trouble even hitting the bale. With a more powerful bow, perhaps the drop would not be so severe? I very much doubt that I could shoot a bow that has a 100 pound draw weight though, and certainly not with any accuracy.

Speak for yourself my friend, I DO, well, some anyways. Hush peeps.

Hmm, what about Atlantis/Aztlan? You did say that you did not know for certain whether your site is or is not….. right?

WHAT?!!! :o :o Now I must say SPEAK FOR YOURSELF amigo! (heh heh :laughing7:) Treasure has value in many ways, not just as a form of “cash”, wouldn’t you agree?

Hmm well I did not know that, so now I have to go back and ask our amigo Blindbowman if he is truly “legally” blind, that is CORRECTED vision of 20/200 or worse? Thank you in advance,

Well I can assure you that any sheep-soiling would surely cause less reaction than the cow-manure. In fact, since I do get to step in not just sheep but also cattle and horse manure on a very regular basis, of the three forms of turd, sheep is probably the least offensive. A fresh cow-flop that is still saucy as mustard has an accompanying aroma that many find less than appetizing, though really after about forty seconds you can’t even smell skunk spray so it is all in the mind. You would prefer to see me in manure-stained canvas, with barb-wire holes in various places rather than a tux? Now whom is being the elitist? ??? I must also take exception (respectfully of course) to hanging such a tag as a “plutocrat” on me, for I have neither wealth nor power. Unless you are counting some rather different things as “wealth” in which case I am very fortunate indeed (in the form of friends, good health, even to some degree “freedom”) and different definitions of “power” for instance I do vote, which is some form of power, but.....geez now I can’t think of any other type of “power” I do have. Hmm - well what about the power to irritate good people, would that count as a type of “power”? :icon_scratch: ???

As to preferring an air-conditioned car over a mule – what is air conditioning? ??? Is that when I have both side windows down in the pickup and drive it at top speed? (It seems to top out at around 55, maybe 60 downhill if towing a heavy trailer that is really pushing it) Please explain what exactly air conditioning is, so I can answer this question from the position of being informed? :thumbsup:Thank you in advance,

Oroblanco

Hi Janiece,

"Which is the best" questions are always so hard to answer because it's always so subjective, but if I had to pick just one book to start off with, it would be Dr. Thomas Glover's "The Lost Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz - Part 1 The Golden Dream." It covers a large portion of the legends and stories with a well researched basis.

In case you want to look through a pretty darn good bibliography of Lost Dutchman related books, here's an interesting site to check out.
