Just watching the Smithsonian channel with a show about the accidental finding of the body of king Richard III, and they have one of the "Simon and GarFUNKle" duo as part of the show! This show is from 2013 so it predates The Detectorists. Now, I'm curious about who exactly he is, because he seems to have a real world association to archaeology and ancient history.
Edit to add - apparently his name is Simon Farnaby, but all find for his background is that he is an "actor, writer and comedian"
PS- I find it comical that the "Simon and Garfunkle" duo, one is really name Paul and the other Simon.
Sophie: "Seems the plane crashed going straight down and burried itself in the ground."
Russel: "Always fill in your holes."
Terry: "Bad taste Russel."
Who writes dialog like this? Fantastic I tell you. I was even laughing while writing this post. Crook is a comedy genius!
The actors are brilliant as well or it would not work.
The BBC kept all the episodes pulled. There are clips, but the only full episode has been the latest release, and only available on the BBC's youtube channel. Everyone else who tries to post them has them deleted. I don't know if the last episode is still up or not, but you can't find the whole seasons except for certain 3rd party hosting sites.
Sorry, I used to have a site bookmarked, but after getting the DVDs I erased it.
Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix. If you do not have netflix, you can sign up for a free 30 day trial. Then you can watch all episodes and if you decide you do not want netflix, just cancel. They are good about that. I did that and then decided to keep it for only $8/month.
Honestly, if folks would just read the entire thread (and other sites' threads on detectorists) before complaining that the show isn't on the web.
Or maybe its memory- I see people that I know (knew?) about DM.
One last time:

I recently watched all 2 seasons within a 2 week period and I LOVED IT! I even recommended it to my non-detecting friends as that show's universal themes should appeal to others that aren't even detectorists. Can't wait for the next season to be produced!
When I saw this thread the other day, I had to check it out. That was a great show! I binge-watched both seasons in 2 days. Looking forward to season 3 now!
My wife and I did a marathon of season 1 and 2. She admitted to me she was hooked before the first episode was finished. When we had watched both seasons she admitted to me that she hated to see it end. Now my wife has no interest in metal detecting like so many other wives.. She told me she started watching just to humor me but really enjoyed it and now she is waiting for season 3.
Lance is the medical examiner on some episodes of the BBC show Midsomer Murders and Sherlock Holmes. My wife just told me she is ready to sit down and start watching it again.
