THE CALL OF THE BOTTLES-BACK INTO THE WOODS

Well, for the last few days I have been hearing the call of the bottles and wanted to go
back into the woods. Yes, I answered the temptation and headed out there solo today.
I took a new route into the woods that Mudslide said would be shorter, but there would be
an incline comming back up. She wasn't kidding! LOL

I followed one path that I thought was the way to where the bottle area was located
but after about 20 minutes found out from someone in the woods that I was heading the wrong way.
OK, let me try this again so I FINALLY found the right path and headed into the woods
and felt confident for a while, then some of the area started to get really deep and I didn't
think that I should attempt to go any further by myself. After 10 minutes
of standing there looking around my inner voice said stop get what you can and get out.

So I only spent about one hour looking around and climbing over huge trees in the path to get to the
bottles. I found three bottles within the hour that were on the ground and I did not have to dig
for them. I can only imagine what's buried below.

The first bottle has a metal cap, second looks like a perfume bottle, and the third some sort of medicine
bottle. It has measurement markings on both sides and on the bottom is embossed Moderne Oval. Can't
wait to hit this place again, and again, and again. ;D I think there are lots of goodies if you spend time looking
for them.

P,

nice finds, got to love them bottles.

Always good to get lost in the woods a bit,
never know what you'll come across.

have a good un................

Got to love them bottles. Even if your not into the bottles that sure changes when you find your first. I was lucky enuf to find a great bottle dump when i was in PA just outside of Pitsburg. I spent about 3 to 4 days, about 2 hours a day pulling bottles out. Just on the top alone there were tons. 2nd day i went back i had built me a small sift and started to dig. Found tokens, smaller bottles, marbles and of corse older bottles. It got to the point to where i was being picky about what ones to take lol. Man do i regret not getting as many as i could. Moved now and living in FL. Some day will get back there though. The bottles i pulled out ranged from 1890 to about 1930. One of my favs(and found 2 of em) was a barber sulotion bottle. posting a pic. of it. opps forgot to add what bottle says............

Front: Dr. ELLIS special quick dry fluid. WAVE SET then gives info on Dr ELLIS bottle company.
Back: (shows a pic of bottle and comb being dipped in it)and says: Dip The Comb In The Bottle.

Nice Bottles.

Congrats !

Jeff

Wow,
I thought I was the only Ohio Bottle nut. Great finds, now I can't wait to get back
'into the water. I find most of my bottles in the lakes around me, here in nw Ohio.
I always wear wet shoes and if you wear the light weight ones you can feel the bottles
with your feet.

I like some of the others one day got picky too! I had found so many beer and pop
bottles in the lake that I could only carry so many back to shore. So I only took one
of each kind I found. That is except the Coke bottles with the dates on them.

Well Great Finds and if you need some protection in the woods the next time you go,
bottle hunting e-mail me haha. HH, Ringfinder

The perfume bottle has what I think are called hobnails, looks like you did pretty well going solo this time. Hope to see more goodies your next trip. HH!

Penny,

This is kinda scary to be wandering around in the woods & have someone else there too and for them to tell you that you're going the wrong way. :o I would of hightailed it out of there fast. Please, be careful & don't venture out that deep in the woods alone.

Luv those bottles.

Thank you RiverRat for your concern. I went to an Army & Navy Surplus store yesterday and purchased a self defense spray Sabre, consisting of red pepper,cs military tear gas and invisible uv dye. I felt a bit more protected having it and I'm always aware of my surroundings. Not to worry as the man that I spoke with was an city employee, and sort of looking out for my best interest. I'd love to be able to take someone with me all the time, but it's really not fair to other person especially if their not really interested in it. I do feel limitations going into the woods by myself being a woman, but I only do as much as I am comfortable with. Had I tired to go further today I know I would have regretted it,that's why I stopped and headed back. I am a very strong willed and hard headed person, but logical most of the time. My next purchase will be a cell phone in case I get stranded or injured and can't make it out by myself, God forbid. I'm also thinking of purchasing a whistle and learning the SOS code so I could use it if I'm in distress. Just wondering how many people would pick up on the code. I should stop watching the Discovery channel, and shows like surviving in the jungle. lol Makes you think if they can survive the jungle I sure as heck should be able to survive the woods. lol

Mighty Mouse, those are very cool bottles and I see why you like them so much. I'd love to find something of that nature, colored glass with a lot of detials and embossed.

:-\ Excellent job, Pennyworth! But come on now! WHO do you know that would know the SOS codes????? These brain-dead people around here can barely function, let alone know something like that and take proper action! You better get yourself a cell phone, girl! Good going today!!!!

Hey it was just a thought! Give me a break. ;) LOL My neighbor next door was in the navy and he knows the SOS code, but then again he's 86 years old and won't be hanging out in the woods. ;D I'm working on the cell phone, need to look around and compare. Besides when I got an itch I got to scratch it and those bottles were the cure. :)

A cell phone is a much better idea, IMO. In the words of "Hill Street Blues---Let's be careful, it's a jungle out there." Mud's right, but instead of the whole Morse Code, just knowing that the Code for SOS is ...---... may be helpful in giving you a little peace of mind. Hopefully that will help you get your merit badge. LOL

3 sets of 3 whistle blasts means I'm in trouble and need help. Cell phone is a good idea too but I find that I don't have a good signal in a lot of the places I go out in the woods. Lets face it they don't put up towers hoping the squirrels will get phones :D Always let someone know where you are going and when you will be back. though I am the biggest breaker of this rule too :-[ Just be careful and don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable and you should be OK

Nice bottles! I wonder what the middle one is, looks like a perfume or poison bottle.

If you run into people on the trails, chances are its pretty safe woods, but then again who trusts people anymore? I would get something stronger than pepper spray, there was a thread about that a little while ago, seems it looses its charge and stuff :-\

Very nice bottles, I like that center one, very decorative.

Way to go Penny......If we lived closer to each other.....I'd be right out there with ya!! We girls do have a slight disadvantge in those iffy sights. I tend to get that fright or flight thing going on and haul butt back to the truck :-\ I need a partner! Good luck honey and keep us posted on your finds! Love those perfume bottles!!

Happy Hunting,
Moon

Nice group of bottles! Sure there is more out there to find. Good luck. Vern
