The Boyz are Hosting a Hunt

The area we're discussing is extremely grown over, almost to the point where one may question his or her own sanity whilst detecting there. The open areas are out of the question. However, the Fiend and I are diehards and we stop at nothing. Thorns? Bah. Cuts will heal. Briars? Fooey. Nothing a nice pair of scissors can't fix. Mosquitoes and ticks? Bring Off. Poison Ivy? Uh, ask the Fiend...lol

I would be interested in other areas, though. I'm open to suggestions/invitations to other areas of historic interest, or to any area in general where there is a potential for oldies.

Nah, all good with me, I do the briar patches and the thorns all the time. In fact our local club does an all nude detecting seminar in a poison oak patch down by the river twice a year. It's cool! You guys ever the area by the old Russian cemetery? Tons of holy candles and wreaths are just tossed over the fence by the cleanup crew. There was a picnic area there where the mourners would go after services and have a little or a big get together after the funerals took place. Last timeme and my buddy Mike were there we had a stare down with a 10 point buck that apparently feared no human.

There's an old city dump on the back side of the cemetery withlots of old appliances still visible and if some old bottles lying around also.

Leem know if you want some closer shots of the site from back during the 38-39 aerial survey.

nothings carved in stone,i'm open

I was out in the woods this past weekend and found 2 Merc's and 8 wheats. The oldest wheats I found were 1917, 1919, 1930 d, 1938, then all in the 40's.

Twistedd found a silver quarter and a merc, and a 1916 d wheat.

But I have Poison Ivy all over my arms and an my face, not cool at all... Twistedd got Poison Ivy on his wrist.

I would go back, but its 10,000 times harder to hunt, than it was just 3 weeks ago... That just means that you have to work harder to find the goods!!! Everything is all over grown, but I am happy to say that I haven't seen any ticks on me yet. I spray myself down good with "OFF".

hey bud,how about the woods(not the open fields),are they bad also?

Hey Bud,

You want to add some arracheras to the mix or hold it for the next hunt?

Man that is gonna be some good eats!!!!

Goio, man when you made that, it was awesome!!!! I seriously ate like 3lbs by myself!!!! talk about awesome. For you that don't know, I mentioned that we could grill after a hunt, so I just brought some store bought burgers and some bratts, Goio brought like 10lbs of arrachera that he made the day before and marinated all night or so, talk about finger lickin good. He also brought some small onions and peppers that we grilled too.

Hey bomber, what did you do with all of that chicken and corn from last time, I was so hungover that I could only eat 2 pork sammichez, 1 chicken leg, and 1 BBQ corn on the cob. This time I will bring my fat-boy appetite!!! LOL Bomber brought like 15lbs of BBQ pulled pork that he smoked himself with apple wood and I think apple cider!!!! That was by far the best pulled pork sammichez I have ever had!!!

The woods arnt so bad, but if the sun can reach the forest floor, its over grown, it will just take longer to hunt, and by no means impossible. Thats the only place I hunt, I have never found anything more than nails in the open fields!!!!

thanks bud, stop eating now so you could fill up on sunday

Ok Guys, if the woods are overgrown then why don't we set something up in Douglas or Washington Park? :icon_pirat:

hey, that works for me, maybe I can break the 100 year mark. I want to find an indian, any kind of barber, or a V-Nickel!!!! So far my oldes coin is a wheat cent from 1913, that makes it 95 years old.

Ok, yeah, update. It took a couple days but the poison ivy infection has worstened. All of the poison ivy must have been IN the woods, as I haven't ventured out in the open (no reason to, the grass is super tall now). If you guys still want to go there, I'll show up for lunch and bring something, but I won't be going into the woods. I'll been sticking with the open areas for the time being. I've been doing some yard detecting and coming across some GREAT finds. Goio, if you hunt one of those parks, give me a ring, I'd love to tag along if that's OK. Not sure if I'd want to hunt there alone. I am well aware of the history of those parks and would love to have a go at them.

So for all intents and purposes, I vote for one of those parks Goio recommended. This poison ivy makes me wish I was infested with ticks-- at least ticks can be removed all at once...

yea, its all over my arms and on my face!!!! You got to love the Ivy!!!! :tongue3:

Hey, im always down for a new place to hunt!!!! I think I have had enough of the posien ivy for a few months. Too hot for long sleeves!!! :icon_pirat:

what the hell are you two guys doing out there in the woods that your getting poison ivy all over, naked mushroom hunting?..............i'll let tommy know hes always up for tag teaming :icon_jokercolor: :icon_jokercolor:

:3some:

jelious? :icon_scratch: ;D

No, thats quite alright, you don't need to tell tommy anything. All of the usual spots are't producing coins that much, so you have to find new spots to get the good stuff. New spots= poisen ivy.

so its overgrown even under the trees?
