Yesterday on my way to work I drove by the local Catholic School, and I noticed there had been some commotion with construction..... hmmm....
Early this morning I found myself asking a half dozen, non-English speaking workers for permission to detect. I’m not sure if they understood me at first, but once they saw my machine, they started yelling “Oro!”:laughing7:
There were two areas available to hunt, my head was spinning with all the clad at first...
It was the mulched playground and I guess common areas where $5.43 ultimately became mine.
My next area was directly behind the 1938 school, which had been paved over with asphalt in approximately 1948.
Boom! Let’s Do This!
3 hours and 53 coins later, I tapped out.
3 Buffaloes, 40 Wheats, 2 Wars, 2 Rosie’s, 5 Mercs, and a Big Girl Walker...:headbang:

Every coin minted before 1948, buried beneath pavement for 70 years....Outstanding!

So, the coins were overall pretty smoked, even the silvers were practically unrecognizable...
But yea, I tumbled the snot out of the shiney ones...

Based on my work and life schedule, this may have been a one hit wonder.... and I’m ok with that!

Thanks for looking!:hello:

Dave - Having graduated both a Catholic elementary and a Catholic high school, I hope you did a Novena after that score! Great job - and I love the fact that you kind of, sort of, got "permission" from the non-English speaking crew! Ha Ha. I'll have to keep that one in mind.

Nice work Dave. Congrats on a very rewarding 3hours.

Now we're metal detecting. Congrats on a great day.:wav::wav:

WOW way to go on that 10 silver day!
You must still be in the clouds!
COINgrats to you Dave!

Wondering what you use for grit when you tumble your coins...walnut hull like for reloading brass cartridges??? Congrats on the finds...

Full disclosure.... I’ve never tumbled any of my finds before....
But my wife has one for her Silversmithing, and she uses stainless steel shot.
She recommended I try it, as the silvers were caked with asphalt, and despite my best efforts.... they were still so ugly.

Thanks everyone for your likes and comments.... I even called my Grandmother to brag about my excitement!

Hi, wow now that was one awesome hunt, Congrats:occasion14:

WoW!! WTG.. Congrats on the great finds,.. Big Silver... :occasion14:

Damn...You killed it! But...take some credit..you knew this site had some promise, and you took the time to find out! Most excellent day of digging!

Congrats on the big day! This post should be mandatory reading. I've met a lot of hunters that have a fear of asking for permission. 👍👍👍👍👍

BAM you killed it!!! Well done and sharp eye spotting the new site! Swing for the fence!!:occasion14:
