Good evening everyone,

Many of you probably remember the old JA. McDonald homesite which I pounded 100's of hours last year and found mostly per-1900 coins including 2 LC and 12 IH's, all in the 1860-1880 range. Well today I couldn't resist going back over and pounding it some more before it's gone. The house has been for sale and has just been reduced so who knows how much longer I'll be able to hunt there. This place has become somewhat personal to me. I know the guy who lived there and even found his grave at the cemetery. He was a wealthy man and played a roll in the early days of Woodstock. He was one of the original settlers who moved to Woodstock Ohio from Woodstock Vermont, thus the name was given to this small rural town. I would like to buy it but have a nice house of my own. Besides, it's 175 years old. It was built in 1835.

Enough of my story telling. Anyways, I hunted it for about 2 hours like I always do. Dug every signal. After an hour into the hunt i thought I was going to get skunked. Well, dug a1908 IH. Not in too bad of shape. Then on my way back to my car I stumbled upon a nice Green 1871 at 5 inches. After a rinses under the water and a soft brush and a manicure it came out really nice. Just a little wear but very nice coin indeed. Also dug a National Distillers cap at 8 inches. Any idea on age. The Pat. date is 1875 and ??

This brings the total to 14 IH's at this place and 2 LC's. I was hoping on some more of the big pennies but not today. Just goes to show you that no place ever gets hunted out completely....... believe me. Lot's of hours and dedication and lot's of patience. Dig every signal and swing in every angle possible. Coins will come out if they are there.

Good luck and keep at it. Thanks for looking.....Ron
I just saw a 58 dollar price for one just as good. Any Ideas?? I have had a few PM's stating the coin is a key date. I'm just a dumb jarhead and didn't know that. So, we'll see what happens from here. Thanks for all of the input and comments.

That place started out with 52 acres and house. 4 years later, the land sold to farmers who were already renting it. Now the last time I looked the house and 2 acres was 135K. Now price is reduced again

AWESOME INJUN dude! Michigan soil eats those babies. How much lower does the property have to go, before you put a bid in ;D? Maybe ya could pool yer bucks with some trusted T-Net friends and buy the place, just a thought. .......NGE

I don't want it if it's been hunted out :laughing7:

Never hunted out! If it was my place, I would relandscape it. I would scrape about 8 inches off the top (screen it good), then redistribute the dirt and plant new grass seed. Also, if ya owned the property, you would be neighbors with the farmers who bought the rest of the land, and it may be easier to get permission to hunt the rest of the land.......NGE

That's a great idea. Imagine what else is hiding in that old place.............I could only dream about it. It's only 1835 land
