One thing to EDs credit he has highlighted a region of Durango albeit ignoring its own wonderful history. There is a long history of mining in the region.
It has been estimated about 280000 mining jobs have been created in Mexico. Which is good for employment as every mining Job creates secondary Jobs that feed off the miners disposable income. In fact good for US Economy too as the flow on effect is Jobs created and maintained in the manufacturing sector selling specialist mining machinery and associated technologies.
One sad note many mining companies in Mexico are Canadian are listed on the Canadian stock exchange but not on the local Mexican one thus making it hard for Mexican investors to invest in their own mines. That is one fundamental problem that needs to be addressed. As a shareholder of some of some of the companies with interest in several projects in Mexico I believe it should of been an obligation in the contract with the Mexican Government. Thus Mexico has one of most liberal mining friendly nations to do business with.
The following region is of group of mines in Topira mineral concentration. They are historical mines originally back in the days of Spanish but now evolved into one large mine... Know as the great Panther mining region.
As from the digram you can see the historical mines now consumed by one new modern gigantic underground mine.
As a Ex exploration driller that drilled holes to take core samples. There is no one set ore sample determine the the fate of such mining venture. But Whole series of samples from various depths to build up a picture of the size and quanity of the ore body. By taking average over seris of test drills to geologist build a 3 dimensional picture of the ore body. Ore samples are aggregated based on assayer results. However for any mine to proceed many boxes other need to be ticked before the mine can come on line..... the number crunchers need to calcualte the value of net rate of return per ton of rock mined. If the numbers do not add up. Then best place to store this ore body is in the ground until commodity prices rise high enough to make the mine economical. One should note an underground mine is much more expensive than an open cut...
An average start up for a new modern mines is about 100 million plus... Most money is generated through private equity firms dealing in stocks.
But do not be fooled nearly all the mineralised areas are held under some mining lease. There are companies out there that are mining speculators. All they have to do is hold to lease until bought out by an interested big miner with huge capital takes on the project... they never mine themselves they just employ exploration contractors to drill core sample every now and a gain to maintain their base minimum requirements for holding a mining lease. Anyone outside the lease holders authorization removing ore from those sites is technically theft.
Tipora mining Area is just one of many mining areas of Durango.
