Well, I finally did it. After over 53 years of metal detecting, I managed to detect and recover a gold coin! Not just any old gold coin, but, a real old gold coin. It's a Celtic quarter stater, initially identified as a Dubnovellaunus from 25 BC to 5 BC. I had to go to England to do it, but, that was half the fun! I also found all sorts of other items too, and I'll post some more photos when I get the time. Right now, I'm still on cloud 9.

The design is similar to both the full and quater stater. Weight and diameter would help ID the coin. Figure just about 1.3g and 11 mm for a 1/4 stater and about 5.55gm and 17-19 mm in diameter for a full stater.
Don in SoCal.
The design are normally a matching pair although die types vary. It is the weight thats the biggest clue.

Amazing! Congrats!

Now that I have this coin home and in hand, I decided to take a couple more photos. Hopefully they're better than the first ones!

Congratulations on this achievement.. I am still waiting for my first gold coin in 15 years...

It stays there for now, until it's evaluated to decide if it's treasure or not......probably not. They have better examples of most gold coins, and this apparently is not part of a hoard, so, I'll probably get it in the end. That's pretty much up to them though. I'll either get the coin, or, the value of it.
Has the civilization that minted this coin been identified? I am curious to know where the coin was minted...
