I haven't seen one quite like your example but my best guess would be a hoof shearer with pick.

The frog (only) is pared or trimmed using a curved hoof knife, actual outer hoof wall is trimmed using nippers, and leveled using a rasp...

Well now that I have read chrispin's respone he just jumped to a conclusion and hasn't learned how to respond on the internet. chrispin you should ask is that the same knife or different knives. Don't make accusations, use tact and be direct, you can't tell someone's feeling in the written word.

If you knew mojjax like we do, you would have never said that. Mojjax has a large collection of unusual antiquities that he has been posting here for years.

So basically your calling a longstanding and trusted member here a liar. Wow!

No. He misinterpreted what he was looking at and came to an incorrect conclusion.

We question things on this site every day. That's how we identify things and occasionally weed out scammers or help steer misinformed or uneducated members in the right direction.

Perhaps we should get out the pitchforks and the torches and hunt him down and stone him.

Well I havent been on this site for a while but TN used to have a rule that calling someone a liar was forbidden. Calling someone a fraud is not part of the identification process. We do not question a members integrity especially someone like Mojjax. That includes whether someone says they found it with a metal detector or purchased it at a moving sale. And we cannot call someone a scammer either thats looking for help. We can identify the object without these types of insults.

Sorry, I'm not buying your story about buying it at a moving sale... that kind of thing doesn't come out of no where.

I wont report this to the moderator but someone should because that used to be strictly forbidden and enforced here at TN and his comments above should be removed from the record. .

If TN has changed this rule, then someone please tell me. Like I said, I havent been here for a while.

Yea its no biggie even though an apology would have been nice. But it used to be strictly forbidden to question someone on where or how they obtained an item. If someone said they found it, we were not permitted to suspect the person of lying. It probably still is against the rules. I dont know. At least it was IDed quickly before any more accusations or embarrassment..

Something isn't adding up here. The second and fourth pictures match but are different from the first and third. The third picture shows a totally different blade, the second and fourth and curving up to a narrow point, the fourth ends with a blunt end. The end of the "knife" on the fourth pic is completely different from the rest. The first picture shows an end that is reversed then on the second and fourth picture. It kind of looks like somebody had some old pieces of cheese or paper cutters and is trying to solder different things on the end to create something wicked looking. Sorry, I'm not buying your story about buying it at a moving sale... that kind of thing doesn't come out of no where.

I wish this would have been reported sooner :(
& yes it is a Rule violation to even suggest a member may be lying !

Luckily for Crispin, mojjax is not a Newbie & / or Easily offended.
Or the results may have been deletion of more then just a post :unhappysmiley:

Gidday Jeff, Kia ora; from my point of view it has been a misunderstanding because of misinterpretation of a perspective in some pics and it escalated from there.
Hand shakes all round should see the end to it :occasion14:

:) Try again.

Ok. Crispin misinterpreted the pictures. There was nothing wrong with what he said there. He thought he was looking at two different knives.

I was quickly skimming the posts to catch up. I missed the end of the quote where Crispin said he wan't buying where Mojjax got the knife. That was out of line. I should have read the post more carefully before commenting on it. My apologies.

And yes, the community occasionally finds people who are being dishonest, sometimes by asking pertinent questions and getting conflicting answers.
