The blade on a paper cutter is flat with no bevel . This knife is beveled on both sides .

I haven't seen one quite like your example but my best guess would be a hoof shearer with pick.
I have a horse , I would not use this knife tool to do her hooves -There wouldn't be any leverage unless I was holding the blade - I must say that is a nice looking hoof tool in your picture .
I kind of like oldbuzzards Idea so far the best .

Is that pig tail thing on the tip of the blade welded on or actually party of the blade / one piece? I think it's someone's aborted attempt at making a blade in their garage.

that pick looking end, makes me think its for picking something out after
you whack it, and what ever it is your picking out after the whack is big

It is all one piece - no welds - looks forged . And it has that curly makers mark .

I'd still list it as Folk Art - the only thing I see that twisted pig tail thing doing is pulling wine corks, and most makers marks I've seen are only 1 or 2 mm in diameter.

I like it, I'll give you 10 for it!

What is it made of? Is the edge of it serrated at all? How old do you think it is? Any providence on where or how you came about it? I have a lot of ideas but I'm not gonna say unless you give me more details. Be careful...you may hold the devil in that blade.

it occurs to me that it may be a vintage forged cheese knife.perhaps wire end originally formed a type of handle.this is modern version

It is not serrated . I bought it a a moving sale this morning . It was the kind of sale where you just roam around the house . It was down in the cellar behind the chimney that goes up through the whole house . The house is old with the big granite block foundation . It appears to be made of high quality steel .

A meat hook for turning comes to mind on the one end.
Perhaps in a pull system a piece is or was picked or pulled towards station or work surface.
Curved blades had/have multiple uses from herbs to meat chopping.(Opposite side of curve sharp vs sickle type.)

the knife is just turned over, and the wire end is just laying on its face, in the
right pic, left pic is face up see the shadow the bend makes it stand, i think

Well it's definitely not a one-off piece,, because I found another one here
http://forums.egullet.org/topic/136883-most-prized-kitchen-possession/

where the owner describes using it as a pizza cutter.

I was thinking that both the curl on the end of the alternate handle end, and the logo itself remind me of a pig's tail, so I have searched butchers' tools, but no luck there.
