Storing and Displaying your TREASURE...

I have been giving some thought to how I should store, display and sort my finds.? So that they don't continue to have the appearance of a bucket of JUNK.? ? ?I have been finding quite a bit lately and it is getting a little out of control.? I have sorted much out from the pure JUNK like wire and pull tabs shards of torn up metal and modern Coke Cans....? ?Still though, I have Bottle Caps, Rocks, A couple chunks of Concrete, Coins and Diecast Cars... that I have decided to keep.? ?

Right now I have a large container from some Bulk Biscotti that I got at Sam's Club.? I was just dumping all my finds, EVERYTHING,? in there till I found a couple problems.? ?First, it was a pain and a mess to go searching for some of the better stuff,? like coins etc., among the pure junk. Second, one of my finds was a fresh piece of Wrigley's Spearmint.? ?The slight dampness in the jar, from the moisture as much of my stuff has been found on the beach,? combined with heat from the greenhouse effects of the clear plastic jar and rust from all the IRON items,? the gum started to deteriorate.? The wrapper was getting brown from the rust and it just didn't even look so nice anymore.? And, while it was all nice and minty in there, everything else was getting sticky.?

So, I have decided to separate things by a few catagories.? First are the coins which I have subdivided? OLD, Obsolete or Foriegn,? which I put in a plastic bag with some jewelry and other valuable finds,? NEW, common and in good spendable condition, and HOPELESS, so decayed that they are not spendable or recognizable.? ?I might try and clean the decayed ones and see if I can get them back into circulation as they don't have any other value to me.? Other than keeping them, as is,? as specimens of what happens to modern pennies over time in the ground or sand.? Any suggestions that I might need to do to preserve them or suspend them in their current state?? ?I do tend to resist cleaning most of my finds.? Unless it is a nice piece of jewelry or something.? ?I think the cheracter of them as they came out of the ground is desirable, in the context of "Metal Detecting Finds."?

I read a post of a solution that people soak coins in.? Can anyone tell me what the solution is to clean coins??? Something about Peroxide???? Might try that for the above mentioned pennies.?

Then I have also separated the beer bottle caps.? I kind of like those and the variety in cheracter and such of them.? ?I would like to keep those as a, sort of collection as well.? I have those separated asside.?

I have started to find some zipper pulls which vary so greatly in style and design that they might be interesting to keep separated also.? I haven't found many though.? At least, not yet.? Haven't searched many Tot Lots yet, which seems to be where you find most of them.? Especially at the schools.?

Then there is kids Jewelry.? I have found a couple charms.? Maybe from a little girls bracelet or necklace.? One says Barbie and has a picture of some sunglasses.? The other an Ice Cream Cone.? Made of some cheap metal alloy, probably an aluminum, and painted or inlaid with some acrylic or plastic crystals...? ? Probably just keep that stuff with other jewelry that I hopefully will find.? The best stuff, like my Buffalo Nickel, 2 or 3 Wheats, 14K ring, IKEA Spoon and such, I am keeping in a plastic Ziplock bag for now but they seem worthy of much more.

Anyways, the list of keepable finds is starting to grow and I was wondering what others do to keep it all under control and enjoy it all more.? ?I don't know if I want to just dump it in a box and put it in a closet.? ? Especially for the displayable kind of things.? I could go to a Jewelry Supply place I know of (Rio Grande) and get trays and such that jewelers use but that would be more expensive than I am thinking right now.? I also need to think of storage as well as display.?

Just hoping for some ideas.? If anyone has a good picture of how they display their TREASURES, might be interesting to post them here.?

Thanks for all help, Bill?

Howdy there Bill.
It looks like you do have some real nice finds that you need to display and show off.
My solution was to build a coffee table and end table with heavy glass tops and about 4 to 5 inches deep like a window box.
The top can be lifted off to add more as good hunts permit.
I have never seen any tables like this for sale but you might.
I did build the same set for someone a and got $250 for the coffee table and $150 for the end table the heavy glass and all the time sanding and staining is the high part.
If I had a pic I'd send it to you along with the dimensions but I don't so I hope your good with wood.
Good luck on what you decide to do and happy hunting to fill it up.
