Thanks, hikeinmts, for the kind invitation to metal detect in Korea. If the government doesn't ban overseas travel next, I may take you up on it. :) Are gold coins ever found in Korea?

Texas Jay, One more thing, as I can't remember if I mentioned it in the other answer. I have never heard of any gold coin being found. Anything early would have to be Japanese or Chinese gold, as the Koreans never minted any gold, that i know of. But, I have found Japanese silver coins, a few, with the Korean coins, so there would be a possiblilty.
I am looking for the rice bag(s) full of coins.....I know they were hidden during several different time periods, just prior to the Japanese occupation in 1910, and again when the Korean War was kicking off, 1950 time frame. I have heard of people building roads, or buildings, getting into thousands and thousands of coins.......can't wait for that to happen!!! :thumbsup:
Again, come on over. I know you would enjoy the fun and fellowship and the general good times that we brought with us, from the States, to our hunts here in Korea.

Petitioning is definitely the way to go... But I'm concerned about the way this one is written. It has threatening overtones instead of appealing. I recall the Texas one posted here earlier, and it outlined all the positive aspects of MDing rather than making threats of loss of tourism dollars.

Not sure if that will go over as well as if you first appealed to them citing all the positives.

Otherwise, I agree the bans are unfair and restrictive to responsible MDers like us and should not be in place.

If you have a small weekly newspaper you might try writting an open letter to the county commissioner. I had gotten this printed last week, and this week they printed 3 positive responses from readers and an answer from the "damage control" people in the commissioners office.

It would seem to me a great way to get more of a point out or cause a little ruckus would be for the detectorists in the area to call every day and make an appointment to go out and look for your lost ring of the day before. After awhile they might get the point or just leave you alone to go find that ring. You know you have to dig every signal, because you are not exactly sure where it is. I would think the time lost of using park personnel would be a factor. Especially because of all the cost cutting going on you could also keep a record of this and try to post in the editorial section of the paper. Let the public see how they are spending their money following you around. As far as digging down an getting artifacts within 6 or 7 inches. and stealing or ruining these artifacts I would write the editor again or everyone could put a little cash out and put and ad in the paper refutting his comments. The guy is an i*&%t and has no knowledge of what he is doing.

If we have our rights taken away from us without a fight then was it really a right in the first place. We have to stand up for ourselves if someone is taking something of ours and say,"THAT IS NOT RIGHT." If we don't do that, then what was really taken away?

Re: Harris County

Dimeman;

You should ask Eversole for a list of the types of antiquities that he expects would be found 8" deep in topsoil which was graded before lawn planting (and probably came frome somewhere else, anyway).
