Not an axe, perhaps a cleaver. Also seen something similar for cutting heads off grain (wheat, rye, etc) in the day when it was shocked.

What purpose would the hook serve? Looked like a lochaber axe to me.

Not exactly sure what type it is but I'd say a type of bush axe, similar to this one...

It is in used condition with wear and tear. It is from the estate of a Fireman from Princeton MA. It looks very simular to a Kelly Axe, but I could not make out any marks. Ill take a closeup of it.

The blade is on the opposite side which is what confused me. Its curved backwards. Could be though!

I think that’s called a “ditch blade”. horrible brushing tool from my vast experience. Maybe Ok I suppose if you always had the upper ditch bank as a safety stop.

Always found a reason not to use it.

I agree that's its most likely a worn-out farm implement, like a plow. Been in the field for many, many years rusting away. Likely damaged long ago, sharpened, and eventually lost off the farm implement. I find old farm equipment a few times a year. From old horse tack to plow/tractor parts.
