Stephen King

King is my favorite too. It would be tough to pick a favorite, but Needful Things, It, Gunslinger series, Green mile, Pet Cemetary scared me the most though. Love John Saul, but Koontz can resist him at all. Af did you ever get to read Odd Thomas? I liked one, two was OK, 3 sounds great, do you know if it's out yet?

Books yet another treasure :).

Odd Thomas... I want to say I have. The name sounds so familiar. Give me a quick refresher?

Dean Koontz where Odd talks to dead people, and sees those nasty little creatures that indicate death and destruction are near. Elvis happens to be one of the dead folk that come to visit all the time. There is a shoot out at the mall and he saves allot of people but.........oh the ending killed me.

The 2nd one Forever Odd is about a friend of Odd's who's father gets killed by the bad guys and they kidnap his friend who has issues and bring him to a casino they had a really bad fire, lots of dead people wandering around the casino. They kidnapped the kid to get Odd to come to them. Odd goes off the deep end a little bit and ends up in a monastery, here comes #3

Does that help?

I must have been thinking about something else. I'll have to go pick up a copy, that sounds like something I'd enjoy. Thanks, Country Girl!

Right now my mother-in-law has Odd Thomas, and I'm supposed to be getting it from her when she finished with it.

Af just ask your mother in law :D, that was about 6 months ago, she should be done by now ;).

Since you guys seem to love SK as much as me I am going to get an Odd Thomas and a Swan Song book off Amazon or Ebay. Saw the Mist trailer and I can't wait to see it. Also am itching to see 30 Days of Night. If you haven't heard of it yet Google it, it looks awesome!

The Dark Tower series is, by far, the best books I've ever read - but I haven't read the last one yet. I've heard from a lot of people that the last book is pretty disappointed - that it left a bad taste in their mouth. Don't tell me though!

I know, I know, it's my guilty secret, I love to read Stephen King above all others including the classics. I really like his end of civilization books. Do any of you have a favorite book that is about the same genre? His books The Cell, The Stand, The Gunslinger series, and the story The Mist are my most dog-eared items but I would like to read more of the same type of story by other authors.
Swan Song...... Great book. In the same vein, I know I always catch flak for this, but I loved Waterworld, The Postman and Tank Girl, all end-of-civilization-themed films.

Tank Girl. Niiiice. Waterworld and The Postman? Just thinking about them gave me a little "vurp" (that's a burp with a little vomit taste). ;D ;D ;D

End of civilization films? Mad Max! Wizards! A Boy and His Dog! The Day After! Planet of the Apes! The Omega Man! Soylent Green! A Clockwork Orange!

the "last man on earth"ala omega man coming out soon starring will smith, how BAD will that one be?anybody remember I ROBOT?.................kevin costners waterworld, postman rock!.....guilty pleasure, but i get his vision

hey af1733,check out a series called Magic Time, reminds me of Swan Song,i believe theres 3 books in it

The Stand is a book that I have read at least 5 or 6 times. It's one of those books that you can finish and read again a few years later and still not be bored.

I have FINALLY finished reading the last Gunslinger volume. Reading that series is interesting because it seems that everything he's written all ties into the Gunslinger somehow.

I think I have more than one favorite.......Insomnia is super, The Talisman is really really good and Dreamcatcher is right up there. Like always, I think the books are better than the movies. Dean Koontz is my best author though :)

Apocoylptic/Post Apoc. novel are amongst my favorites. Here are some along the lines of the first post well worth reading.

Brian Keene
-The Rising, Bram Stoker award winner
-City of the Dead, sequel to The Rising
-The Conquerer Worms

* I post three of his books because he is not only one of the best new voices in horror he is also one of the biggest names in midlist horror with his first editions demanding astronomical prices. Luckily his paperbacks are easy to find:-)

Richard Matheson
-I am Legend

Cant think f anymore right off but Ill post em when i do

If your looking for another author to branch out to give Clive Barker a try. His short stories "The Books of Blood" are fantastic or try "The Damnation Game" or "Cold Heart Cannon". "The Lord of Illusions" was great but tainted for me since I saw the movie before I read the book. Another favorite is "The Thief Of Always" but it is aimed at tween readers. With the exception of "The Thief of Always" very close to the same kind of style.

I did see I am Legend which caused me to buy the book. The movie was WAY different. I also bought Swan Song on ebay and loved it. I still need Odd Thomas and the other books you have all mentioned. I've been buying odd SK items. I just got the pop-up book of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. The book wasn't one of my favorites but the pop-up is!
I would have to say that Waterworld and Post Man are 2 of my favorite movies along with Cherry 2000. Anyone see that one or have other apocalyptic movie favorites?
