I've been trying to contact Owl Engineering Inc. This is the company that makes and sells Stealth sand scoops. I've tried texting, E-mailing and calling their phone. The number is 586-755-5821 and all I get is a response saying that this is a invalid number. anyone else had this problem. I'm calling because my 920i sand scoop has broken welds and I want to have it repaired or replaced. Thanks. Ed

A few months ago, I couldn't get ahold of them either. I ended up just having mine rewelded locally. It didn't end up being much more expensive to do it that way considering shipping cost to send it to Sunspot/Stealth/Whoever owns it now.

Thanks cudamark. I might have to do the same thing. Btw, I have a brother that lives in Lakeside.

Does he detect? If so, tell him that our local detecting club, the San Diego Coinshooters, are having a planted hunt this Sunday. Guests are welcome.

He doesn't detect. All he does is drink beer and lose all his money at the casino.

Not sure of all the details but from what I've heard all went down hill with SunSpot when it was sold. One of the guys from the other forums dropped by to see the operation and it was a sheet metal shop.
Doing a little Investigative looking from google earth I found this at the location. Maybe see if they will answer the phone. The place looks a little like its closed in the picture but ? Lavang Technology precision sheetmetals is now call "AXE sheet metals" .. open under a new name and number?..or note the Permanently closed on the right side >>RED banner under the picture of the place.. Let us know ..

So, they went from Sunspot, to Owl, to Lavang, to Axe, and now closed? Yikes! Chuck, we need you back!

Sunspot has new owner now, in Westminster Cali. Chuck is Owl Engineering, no longer sunspot (sold or something).
New guy is tough to get ahold of, he said his office gals staff left during covid/etc and it seems he works on large stainless metal fab contracts for like Boeing/etc, so scoops are a low profit side thing.

Last known phone that worked was 7149012782 or [email protected] , sunspoteq.com or stealthscoop.com

That’s a real shame. When Chuck owned the business it was first class.
I have to agree that your best bet now is to just have it welded locally… much less frustration, no shipping and quicker return.
If it can’t be repaired for some weird reason, check out Xtreme scoops.

Wasn't going to sing-in but once I saw this discussion changed mind.
I destroyed a Stealth 920 maybe 6 yrs ago and the company in Michigan fulfilled the guarantee and replaced the scoop. Unfortunately, the next yr I again destroyed the scoop (digging in rock and cement sand) and sent it in for replacement. Never heard from or could contact the company again and heard rumors that the company moved to California. Never seen the second scoop again either...

No the original Owner Chuck went from owning Sun Spot to Owl Engineering , after selling the business, Only 5 % of his business was the Scoop business , the other 95 % is a parts making machine business he still has . Under Owl Engineering he decided to make Stork leg lower rods, shafts for detectors , & cuffs , knob guards , people run into problems with the stork legs , they broke , that business went belly up ! So I guess the business in CA he sold the scoop business to , went under another name , who knows , maybe sold , I will tell the guy on here , get a local welder to fix the 720I , so much for the lifetime warranty 8-) I own 4 , and was the one who talked Chuck into making the Sugar Sand scoops, my idea - with all 1/8 holes , I still have two . Currently if I need a new scoop , I go to Xtreme , now making better scoops , in 316 SS & Titanium , I found Titanium to high & it could have weld problems- like others have had , but the 316ss scoops are Rock Solid with a 10 year warranty , over Covid times he had material issues , couldn't get material to make scoops - at a good price , so he shut down , now he's going full force , yes Chuck still hunts , he's getting Old , takes plenty vacations , I would put him down as one of the best scoop makers in the USA- in his error , now it's Xtreme in Texas , happy hunting Earl

So what is the best light weight scoop now. I have an rtg which at 4.5lbs is tough on my old arms

The Xtreme titanium would be the lightest of the big scoops. Use a carbon fiber shaft to take advantage of that lightness.

Yup, pricey, but, how much are your arms and shoulders worth?

I dig with my right arm with a 4 inch ripped right bicep , cmon bro ., your killen me , the heavier the scoop , the better the 1st bite into the sand is , a faster recovery leads to more treasure , less time 😁

Lightness , maybe a little but , you can by 2 - 316 SS scoops with CF handles , for less !
