Spingsteel net thing

Found this in the road. It was in the compressed state with a cord tied around it to keep it compressed. When I untied the cord. it spring to the expanded form. It appears to be professionally made, and has labels sign in to the seams, but i can't read them due to fade. There are 2 of them tied together at the open ends. The closed ends have a flap made of the same material, but with velcro on 3 sides to seal the opening. The frame is a springsteel rod, bent at angles to allow compression. What in the world is this thing?

There is a yardstick in the pics for reference.

I don't know if it's the intended use, but I've seen one of those at a children's carnival for a bean bag or ball toss. It's turned on the side and the kids throw balls at the holes. The container kept the balls from spreading all over and they could be retrieved by opening the velcro on the ends.

I was thinking something to do with aquatic life of some kind also. ??? ??? ???
Lobster, or crab maybe.

Keep in mind it is 2 separate units. The ends without a velcro cover are tied together with a cord. Each unit has 2 large holes. It could't hold in anything living, as it is not secure enough - especially with an end open. I really hope someone knows what this is.

OK, here's a WAG...
Maybe it is horticulturally used. Let's say you are working on a hybrid plant. You put the plants in the enclosures and "seal" it up. The mesh would keep birds and butterflies and bees from interfering with the pollination that is generally closely monitored in hybridization. Of course, even the wind can play a part in pollination...

Someone will get it soon enough...looks like something that was designed for a specific purpose but could be adapted to other uses...

PS. Maybe apiary or avian in nature?

You mean for a lepidopterologist?

It looks like a crab or minnow cage with part of the inside missing. Either the inside is still on the truck, or someone tossed it because the inside was missing.Breezie

Although it is heavy fabric mesh, it is fabric, so I don't believe it would be for crabs, not to mention the holes and the open ends would not hold anything securely.[/b][/b]

Yes, fisher people use nylon for some crab and minnow cages. Do a google search and type 'nylon net crab fishing cages' and you'll see several types, some of which are shaped like this one. I still believe part of the inside is missing. Breezie

I think dozer is correct. It looks so much like a hamper.

Is the fabric part made out of nylon or what? Here's a copy/paste from a website that sells fishing nets: Umbrella Dip Net -NE-201
This is a great bait catching dip net. Features strong Ace Nylon netting on a galbanized steel frame. For easy operation it's spring-loaded frame pops the net open for use and folds completely in one quick step. Specifically designed hemmed edges insure your catch will stay in the net. Complete with 25' rope. NE-201 42"x42", NE-202 36"x36"

I agree the minnow nets do look very similar but every one I looked at had some kinda of trap. Only an exact match will solve this. http://www.uxcell.com/collapsible-two-parts-cage-minnow-fishing-lure-trap-cast-net-p-42843.html
