UDATED!!!**SpanishTrail half Dollar??

Hey all....I normally dont post in this section. Im no way NEAR the CRH's on this site. But i do dable a bit.

I went to the bank on Sat and asked for my typical $100 box of nickels, and aksed the lady if she had any half dollars.

Well she said she had 3, but told me one was a commertive she thinks , She told me it was a "Texas" Half dollar. Which made no sense to me..until i saw that it had long horns on the front.

Anyway...I went home thinking it was part of the "State" quarters thing they are doing on halfs now, but it was odd because it really doesnt have a date on it..it just says 1536-1936.

So i looked it up...and saw them..but it said it was worth like 1500...I know some people hit the jackpot..but i dont think i did..I weighed it and it weighs right..sized it up to another half dollar, and it was looked the same, just the toning is weird to me..Im FAR from being an expert of coins.
Have anyone seen this coin before? does this toning look right? Im scared to clean it, just incase it was real

Either way, its a cool looking coin for .50C

***** UPDATE*****

Well, I made it to the Coin shop yesterday. Met a really nice gentleman that seemed very interested in my coin. It was crazy because he locked the door behind me, which sorta freaked me out.

But anyway...He looked at it for a few minutes..weighed it and compared it to some other halves for size reference. And then he pretty much told me it wasnt the real deal :sadsmiley:..he told me that it appears to be purposely made to decieve someone or was a piece of jewlery. The ONLY good thing about it was that he confirmed it was Silver, but he said that the toning was not geuine, which makes him think it was made to decieve someone.

He actually offered me 20 dollars for it, but I told him I would rather keep it. Man, it was a tough drive home, but I guess thats how this game works

Thanks everyone for all the comments and support!

I still think im going to call the bank and tell them how great the customer service is at this bank.

Sorry guys...Wish I had a different outcome from all this

Happy Hunting!

Finally got an update...Read the Orginal Post
Get it looked at by another person. Seems fishy to me. He said it was silver and offered you 20$ for it. I could be wrong but I think he was trying to pull a fast one. Why in the hell would anyone make a fake out of silver? Yes I get that it could be worth a lot, so silver fake In this case wouldn't be a bad idea. As far as the toning it looks a lot like most silver coin toning I see. Be careful

I agree have it looked at by someone else- I honestly dont trust lcs much- if it were me id pay the $$$ to send it to one of the grading companies cause if its the real deal then you know - if not then youre out $30-50 after shipping an such but atleast you know for sure

Hey Guys...My wife said the same thing...She thought it was weird that he wanted to buy it , She actually told me that he either knows something, or he wants to try and pass it off...The guy seemed nice...But they all do..lol

But i think i will get a second opinion..

Sorry to hear that, what did he base his opinion on?

I would love to know the story behind this coin either way.

Say its fake: somebody makes a fake half dollar (out of real silver) that lets be honest...nobody had probably heard of before now? and then it ends up at a bank??? haha wild.

it's probably still worth a few hundred dollars...

Sorry to hear that, what did he base his opinion on?

Really...He just said it looked "Off"...said the toning didnt make since, and the lettering wasnt as "Blocky" as it should...he used a technical term for the lettering. He showed me a pic from his laptop of one that was slabbed..But the stuff he was pointing out..I just didnt get it... He said it was Silver thou, which i guess is why he offered me 20 bucks for it....But like anything..Doctors..dentist...Im going to get another opinion. I found a LCS here in Dallas Im going to try and take it down tomorrow. Didnt know it was going to be this involved..lol

Without going into detail(don't want to hijack thread) I had a very similar experience with a dealer who told me a cc Morgan was fake and still tried to buy it off me for melt. I had others telling me to send it in to a grading company so I did. Imagine my excitement when it came back as MS64 and completely genuine! I am telling you this so you for sure get another opinion. Some dealers are very dishonest and think that when an individual comes into their store asking if something is genuine then that individual must not know anything about coins and they see it as an opportunity. I am still hoping for you that this is the real deal as I have been following this thread since day one! Good luck!

Something else to think about. If it's basically worthless, besides the silver value, why is he offering you 2 +1/2 times the silver value of the coin?

OK..I just spent a little while searching Fakes. Replicas...counterfiets...and I actually found this coin IS something that has been reproduced from China...I kinda feel stupid now..But Im still going to get a second look at it..because I dont see them being sold as fakes as Silver.

Wow..I cant believe China can get away with this Shii...It makes me sick

I sorta took my coin and compared it to the Real deal...and then compared to Fake....Mine is looking more on the Counterfiet side...I just dont get why it would be silver

ForgeryNetwork - The largest Fakes database HomePage

And then you have this A-hole selling them from the the United States

Thats EXACTLY what my wife asked me..Im so confused over this...im going to just take it to another guy, and if he says the same..then i might have a better understanding..if he offers me money...than i will know they must know something i dont.

It just doesnt have the details on it..but at the same time, it looks worn a bit...and not the Fake wron loosk they sell on the china coins...my head is spinning from all this

Appears to be missing the outter ring that the original shows.... Too bad i was rooting for ya!

Sweet find, sir!
apush

keep your head up man you'll still score big if you keep at it. My only barber half found CRH is a fake. Sometimes good counterfeits of valuable coins can be worth a few bucks, so maybe he can flip it for $40 or so, who knows. I would still get a second opinion before you sold it for that price. Actually I would just keep it that is still a very neat coin
