Those first 3 photos didn't post. Now, that last pic, just above, did and I think that is a hooded figure, padre or druid, not sure, but that large shadow face on the right ( circled in yellow ) looks like a copy of his face with hood showing; looking in the same direction as the carving.
I outlined that very large boulder in the center in red because it looks like a helmeted head with the face toward the hooded figure. I think it is meant to view from the distance you took the photo, because that lightened area (pointed out by the yellow arrow ) gives the face an indent to show the nose then mouth recess without having to actually carve out that large indented area.
As for nugget shooting......if those green rocks are copper ore, your best bet would be with a detector that has notching ability. You could take a piece of it that is the average size and use it as the reference to notch OUT the piece. Maybe that would help to take out SOME of the copper's effect on the detector for looking for gold nuggets.
Also, have you dug out any soil samples "downstream" from the vein to do testing as placer gold assay samples?? That big of a vein, should have leached out a goodly amount of gold dust over the centuries. If the gold is flour form, then you'll have to use mercury to test out some samples. Maybe the old potato method.......but be damned careful to stay UPWIND of the fire. I'm sure you already knew that, but I had to put that in.... If you try panning those pocket samples, don't forget the Dawn liquid soap so the flour gold can hitch a ride out of the pan on the bubbles.
