I finally got out after various distractions and a snow storm. Of course it was only for 45 minutes, but I made it count.

It came from a site dating to 1645 that has produced many excellent finds over the last few years I've been hunting it. The site is my "happy place" and has brought me both joy and misery (I've been skunked scores of times).

I dig a few bits and I get a whisper high signal on my Deus. Only about 3-4" down was this little beauty.

In my 3 year olds hands it looks bigger.

A couple of buttons and a skeleton key loop, along with a bunch of iron nails was the take for the hunt.

I believe it's a Philip IV 1/2 reale, 1650's to 1665, possibly Mexico City mint. I'm not good with cob ID's so if someone can confirm it would be excellent since I'm having some trouble with this one.

Spanish cobs for me is the ultimate, and nothing beats the feeling of holding one. What a blessing after about 2 weeks of no hunting.

Cheers and good digs everyone

Steve

Congrats again buddy, I don't know for sure about other machines, but I know my Deus is really good at finding those tiny little silver targets.

You're doing very well lately! Congrats on a nice and tiny Spanish Silver i most likely never get. It's a high on the wishlist items.
With our hoarde we realized how important swinging speed and direction can be. The "smear" you're talking about was often the only signal noticeable. Trying to get a better signal on another angle-NO signal at all. Gridding from different directions can help a lot on a promising site. The Deus really stands out on difficult terrain!

Thanks, I've been blessed lately. Like you said, sometimes signals show themselves in the strangest ways. That spill of yours was amazing - I'm glad you appreciate the description "smear" since it's probably the best way I can describe the signal the Deus sometimes. One direction only. Cheers bud

Whoa!! Making it look easy once again. Cobtastic!

Really well done Scrappy.
Also, excellent I.D.
Congratulations

Thanks fellas. I've been over that exact spot many times so it came as a surprise. The Deus is a monster in heavy iron and makes my CTX seems like a useful shovel. Lol

That tiny silver has a huge cool factor! Nice job on pushing that Deus and reaping the rewards. I'm often very impressed with the Deus capabilities on tiny targets, especially in iron.

I'm not a coin guy Steve, but cobs are the exception- nice 1/2!

Cobs certainly make me feel the same way. Hammered coins is the edge of a frontier we don't see often around us.

Cheers bud!

The machine is unbelievable. I use the 9" coil - but have thought about the 11". Thoughts?

Absolutely gorgeous, shouldn't this be on the banner?

I use the 9" too, and have found targets pretty freakin deep. I've thought about the 11"as well, although I've heard through the grapevine that the 9" is just about as deep. Obviously a smaller coil will have a slight edge in junky spots, so that's what I stick with.

If I was hunting ploughed fields all the time I would get the 11" to cover a larger swing area.
