I finally got out after various distractions and a snow storm. Of course it was only for 45 minutes, but I made it count.

It came from a site dating to 1645 that has produced many excellent finds over the last few years I've been hunting it. The site is my "happy place" and has brought me both joy and misery (I've been skunked scores of times).

I dig a few bits and I get a whisper high signal on my Deus. Only about 3-4" down was this little beauty.

In my 3 year olds hands it looks bigger.

A couple of buttons and a skeleton key loop, along with a bunch of iron nails was the take for the hunt.

I believe it's a Philip IV 1/2 reale, 1650's to 1665, possibly Mexico City mint. I'm not good with cob ID's so if someone can confirm it would be excellent since I'm having some trouble with this one.

Spanish cobs for me is the ultimate, and nothing beats the feeling of holding one. What a blessing after about 2 weeks of no hunting.

Cheers and good digs everyone

Steve

Wow is all I got, heck of a find man!

Sweet silver Steve. Love the Cob, hopefully I will see someone dig one of those in person soon. 16 days and a wake up.

nice cob. looks like a Carolus II 1/2R. Flip the last pic 180 degrees.

sweet little coin there, they're about as old as you can get

You just have to love the feeling of a cob in your hand. They're wicked old and you can only imagine the changes in the world as they say in the ground. I was thinking that there's a 99% chance this coin sat in the ground as the American revolution raged on just above. Thanks for looking

I certainly hope to see you or one of the boys dig a cob. Some of our sites are old enough to produce some hammered silver. When we meet up I'll bring this cob;)

Congrats Scraps!

That really is the ultimate silver coin... made with a hammer out of the plunder of the Aztec empire!

Wow and uhhh wow.

very nice! not bad for a 45 min hunt.

Fantastic find there, Steve-not only a cob but an earlier one. That's the kind of find most of us dream of-congrats!

Wow!! What a find after no hunting for 2 weeks and to get a positive ID, Awesome!!

What dreams are made of.
Congrats

If coinage could only talk - even something as simple as small coinage must have had a good story back then.

Lol. This one caught me off guard. I was 100% sure I was digging a deep nail or iron chunk. The signal on the Deus was more of a "smear" instead of a nice beep. The funny part is I've literally been over that exact spot 20 times, as well as 3-4 friends. Totally missed it on the CTX. The Deus however, for it on the third attempt;)

Congrats on the cob Steve. They don't come along too often (unless you live in SE VA)
