I need the Treasurenet slouthes to tell me if this is military ? or something else..
and can anyone track down any information about this like what does all this stuff mean ?
My Dog Tags from the Navy did not have my fathers name and address on them..

The letters on the RIGHT are O and P ?

and the tag says

HOWARD GRIFFIN

I believe the T-1148 military ID#

Yes this is on the Memorial page, I did not know what the T-43 was, thinking maybe it was the enlistment year, and I assumed the O-P had something to do with blood type, but because they are seperated so distant between each other I wasn't sure. (mine says O-POS)
Blood type is listed so that if blood transfusions in the field have to be done, they won't kill the patient by administering a different blood type to an unconscious man, but have you ever considered when they started doing that (and started putting it on dog tags?) and when they discovered that there was in fact many different types of blood, and when they started giving blood transfusions ?

I also still have my dog tags after 54 years of being out of the service and my uniform .

I've got my Military issued dogs tags, and my Dependent dog tags. Back in the day Military Dependents were issued dog tags for going overseas.

I wore one of them with my issued dogs tags for my entire career. Confused people that is for sure.

TORRERO since you have the dog tag in your possession, you may want to try Plan B: Attempting to contact one or more of them. From experience I know that establishing contact can take weeks/months. If you need assistance, post the steps you’ve made so there isn’t a duplication of effort.

That might be an alternative. I'm planning to greet the vets as they come home from D.C. on April 26th, so can ask one of the organizers if this is an option and post their reply here.

I emailed one of the local organizers to see if they know/can find out about a HF to France this year. If they don't know, I'll still ask some of the other volunteers on the 26th.

If there isn't a HF, perhaps something can be arranged through the embassy. Of course, returning it to a relative/next-of-kin should still be the first option.

I live less that two hours from Tulsa. I'd be willing to drive there to try to inform Charlton about the dog tags, if that turns out to be the best option.

There is something about digging an artifact that directly touches history and the people in it, so yes it's EXTREMELY rare when it happens and I'm shaking after discovering how this small piece of metal connects me to a war hero buried in France..
