so i got 5 g for the neffco bowl and 140 rpm on the 18 inch bowl is 5G

the electric motor on a neffco is a
Dayton 6k342k
56c frame= 5/8" keyed shaft
1/2 hp
1725 rpm is really only 115 rpm
10 amps
i think you can get 1400 rpm electric motors
10:1-56c right angle gear box with a 1 inch keyed bore out put (Max Motion MMR50-10-56c on amazon)
a 1 inch keyed go cart shaft and 4 inch hub is about $100 cad(to bolt the bowl to)
a couple tapered roller bearings to hold the shaft vertical
less than $1000 minus the riffles to build it
or keep looking for a 24 inch bowl and copy the neffco

I like how you are thinking. If the speed makes a little over 5 g's may be good?
If the feed rate is very low you may not need the 1" shaft just like a washing machine does not have a 1" shaft. Most washing machines are rated for a given load size like 15-20 pound load size.
 

The exchange rate within the rubber rifles / trap area is what one wants to see happening with out over feeding material at any given time. A speed range of 140 - 200 RPMs. depending on the bowl size and materials appears to be in the sweet zone.

You should also test to see what other values are being trapped as well. IMO
 

An ICON 150 is $8900 shipped on Ebay all day long. So unless they have a better price point and it works as well as the iCON, I don't see it doing well.
I could make something similar for less ...
 

the 1 inch shaft just works because that seems to be the out put shaft size of the right angle gearboxes and the go cart axle kits with the hubs come with 1 inch keyed shafts. it just makes the build cheaper and easier. i found a brand new 7.5:1 gearbox which puts me at 270 rpm but i also found 2 motors and 2-10:1 right angle drives for 172.5 rpm, they were "home made" for a bakery to mix dough. so maybe i can go to a 16 or 14 inch bowl. its hard trying to find a 24 inch bowl in the shape and thickness i want but theres alot of smaller diameter bowls.
using a calculator 172 rpm on a 12 inch bowl is 5 g
the other idea ive been kicking around is to mig weld a 1/4" steel rod into the bowl, they use them in the reverse helix trommels,

Nothing bad about the 1" shaft. The gear box is a good idea with a pulley on it.
Try shopping for a used barbeque grill bowl to find one near the 24" size.
 

thats funny, theres alot of 24 inch bbq's
I and others have picked up one with a hole or two in them for very little.
If one is drilling mounting holes for what ever rubber or plastic cover for the interior the holes can just be patched up then the cover mounted inside.
 

I forgot to point out that most BBQ bowls will have ash / air holes at the bottom to either patch or use to connect to a driven surface / wheel. There could be some smaller holes in a BBQ that is rust holes making the owner not want the BBQ bowl any more. The bowl may be in very good shape otherwise.
