picked up this interesting item at brimfield this morning but don't really have a clue what it is...hoping one of you sword guys will recognize it.
it is made of silver-plated brass and sized as shown by the ruler. it is some kind of slide or attachment--it looks like it could fit on a belt or scabbard. there is an opening at the bottom, perhaps to hang something.
it depicts what looks like a crusade knight.
there is a hunting horn motif surrounding the opening. the top reads VIRGIL PRICE PATENT. the ribbons read AUG 1867 (not sure if it shows up in the picture).
on the google patent search, i found a few sword-related patents issued to Virgil Price, but not this piece (i have that just because a piece of this era was marked "patent" does not mean the patent was ever actually granted, so perhaps this is the case here).
