Creek side metal detecting today paid out in silver as I found a sterling silver thimble made by Stern Bros, New York circa 1890. Also found another early 1900s toy gun, 2 more bottles, an old rifle shell, some assorted hardware, and what I believe to be a top from an old fruit/mason jar?
Thanks for all of the comments. DannyB.'s guess of an old strainer frame for canning makes sense. I have found a lot of mason and fruit jars, metal and glass lids, and the like in the area. And the anchor on the thimble is indeed the makers mark for Stern Bros. in New York Treblehunter.
