Hello All! I hit a field today that's produced a few colonial finds and took it slow, trying to grid the field. I was thrilled to find the piece of ornate shoe buckle even though its bent up. Also found 4 flat buttons (one still has some gilt), an ornate brass plate, another buckle (found both pieces!). Also found some Native American artifacts. I found a wheatie too which kinda ticked me off because it was such a sweet signal. the erotic token came from a site this morning that was a bust. Any idea on the large lead ball with the hole? I've seen similar net weights but keep in mind this was found in central NC (a long way from the ocean or a big river). Again, any help is awesome! I know these aren't great finds compared to some stuff on here but I had a great time. I love digging colonial items and saving history! HH!

very cool. The weight is indeed a fish net weight. They had them inland as well and served other purposes as needed. The one item however I dont think is a axe or tomahawk, it def is worked stone though.

Nice stuff!

Nice variety of finds Josh. Cool deal!!!

Nice collection of finds. The ax head looks like a scraper to me but I am no expert.

Thanks Dan, I think JimDon is right about it being a scraper. I also posted in North American artifacts &someone said the same. HH!

Wrong.

These are EVERY BIT the great finds!!! Don't belittle your finds!

I love them!

HH!

The decorative brass thing was a strap piece from a saddle or similar. There was a really long thread I started about them a couple years ago in the "What is it?" section, and I think there was a complete one very close to an exact match to yours in terms of design. Will look for the post later, or PM me if you can't find it, but that's what it is. Later 1700s/very early 1800s saddle hardware.

Alot of good finds Josh. Looking forward to seeing them Tuesday night. Cant wait to join you next month in the field. Glad Feb is short month.
