I have the day off and was dying to get back out there since the ground is still wet from all the torrential rains we've had. Decided to hit this tot lot at a somewhat newer park in town. My husband thought it wouldn't do very good so he told me to go sometime on my own. Well it didn't take long for me to figure out this tot lot was VIRGIN! I gridded that lot for 3 straight hours and then hit around the edges and the benches. I was all by myself and it was wonderful not to be surrounded by kids and adults.I took a quick break and cooled off in the truck since it's near 90 today and humid. Got back out to scout around some big older trees around the edge if the park. I thought it might have been an old house sight. It didn't yield much. Moved over around the pavilion and volleyball sand pit. They only gAve up 2 dimes, a toy car and a kids shoe 8 inches deep in the sand. Haha. After a total of 5 hours swinging I was beat! Decided to head home for some lunch. So I walked away with 2 cheap bracelets, 1 ballerina charm, 1 cross charm, some modern buttons and rivets and $7.30 in clad, and a hot wheels car that looks brand new. Hasnt been there long because I cleaned out that sand pit a few weeks ago. It seems that I am getting MUCH better at reading nickel signals since the last two days Ive picked more nickels than I ever have. I wonder if I will ever reach a time where I DONT dig tabs. Lol. Anyway, all in all it was not too bad of a day. Thanks for reading and HH!

Sometimes it's just the thrill of the hunt, sometimes the agony of de feet, and sometimes the boredom of picking up coins, KDQ!

I'm beginning to really like clad, actually! :laughing7:

Looks like fun was had!

If I can't find tabs somewhere on a site I get itchy to leave to a better one that does. Lots of tabs means cherry pickers, or virgin ground. Hopefully they cherry picked all the clad and left the gold. I have great difficulty passing on certain tabs....even when I know better.

I'm so focused on lower and mid-tones that there has been times I've walked right past silver dimes. How do I know? Because I found them several hunts later working the site in layers. Doh!

Great little hunt. But if you ever get to a point that you don't dig pulltabs, you're just not digging enough.

Congratz on a nice virgin hunt! That's a lot of stuff. I'm not a believer in digging everything because the parks around here are just too trashy. However, on the beach and in tot lots, I do dig EVERYTHING!

Good job, KDQ!! All that clad you and the hubby have been piling up will provide for some kinda celebration someday!!
Even that "junk" has value.........save enough scrap metals for the local recycling center and there's more cash!!
Then........:occasion18::occasion14::blob8:

WOW, great day! However, I think you just made it easier for someone else to come in and find any potential gold.

Excellent hunt,, you're killing it. Great job on the nickels. I'm a nickel guy myself. 51 - 52 are the numbers that I recovered hundreds of nickels on.
Digging those numbers also gave me some gold.
( 51 turned up an 18K Gold and Onyx Ring)
If you're not using it already, get the 8 x 5 coil. It will make a big difference when hunting in trashy areas.
I would also suggest that you get a small note book.
Log each hunt with day, date, temperature, park name, start time, stop time, all finds; q, d, n, p, silver coins, foreign coins, jewelry and all miscellaneous keepers like key fobs, dog tags, keys, watches, etc.
Also make note of any unusual occurrence such as an encounter with a park employee.
You are well on your way to becoming a real sharpie.
Congrats

Second hunt this afternoon at an old church permission yielded only 4 pennies. But my FIRST 1952 wheatie! Glad it coughed up something for the 45 minute drive!

Thanks, ATW. I need to get that 8x5 coil!

You're obviously doing something right! Eventually you will dig silver or no telling all what else. Happy hunting!

Thanks, CG. I sure hope so!
