This is a two year old post, but to answer your question. If you purchase a Garrett detector that has an existing warranty, you can go online to the Garrett website to the warranty page. Fill it out with your information including the detector's serial number and the new warranty will be applied to the detector in your name. I was told this information by Garretts customer service. Hope this helps.....
